For more than two centuries, McFarland House has stood as a monument to the impeccable demeanor, good taste and gracious living that epitomizes Niagara-on-the-Lake. Built at the turn of the 19th century by Scotsman John McFarland, the home was used as a military hospital during the War of 1812 by both the Americans and the British.
Now home to a glass-enclosed tea room serving freshly baked scones and delicate desserts with traditional afternoon tea or enjoy an array of luncheon options.

the ambience is amazing. Lots of light streaming in. The servers are dressed in the time period costumes which adds to the ambience. there are 5 pages of teas to choose from including green teas and herbal and many many options. The scones with the strawberry preserve, whipped cream and whipped butter were incredible. 3 different kinds. many selections of sandwiches to choose from and some lovely desserts as well. the service was great. I had Grace and she was lovely. strongly recommend and the tour after was incredible

I appreciate the lovely tea room and staff are very nice. However a couple things I would like to see done better: First is the staff dresses- One persons long dress was so full of wrinkles everywhere, it was terrible. How are they allowed to look like this! Secondly our sandwiches were so very minimal content and the bread was dry . Not the lovely soft fresh consistency you expect from this kind of experience. We were given another biscuit to take home , but my concern is more why the kitchen doesn’t do a better job in the first place.

We thoroughly enjoyed our high tea, the staff were very solicitous and lovely ambience.

Incredibly underwhelming. Scones were cold and dry, bread was at least a day old on the sandwiches and deserts less than mediocre. Everything seemed very store bought and while the server was quite nice one in our party went without any refills of hot water until we were all done. Do your research there are far better places in the area for tea (in Niagara-on-the-Lake proper).

This was a fabulous treat for my mother-in-law, daughter and I. We had such a wonderful time relaxing, sampling treats and feeling like we were being spoiled. Our server, Lex, was cheerful, engaging and made my daughter who is 10 like a queen! He even brought her a special tea pot that was the topping on the cake! This is such a wonderful place!

A great place to relax and have afternoon tea. Service was excellent and the tea selection was wide and varied. Food was tasty too.

Always delicious food in the beautiful conservatory with historic charm. It is my go to place to bring friends and family from out of town. I have brought my young daughters (3 and 1) for tea and they enjoy it as much as I do. I love that they offer a children's tea for the kids!

We come here often and are never disappointed. The service and food are great. The view is wonderful and it is peaceful.

A big thanks 😊 to McFarland House for making my mom's 85th Birthday 🎂 very special!!! We had afternoon tea 🍵 at the glass enclosed Conservatory Tea Room which had a beautiful view of the gardens. The afternoon tea was scrumptious and each tea was served in a distinct cup and saucer of that era. The servers were dressed in clothing from that era so you were transported back to the 19th century. The McFarland House is a 19th century historic site which is a must see treasure!!! Apart from the Afternoon Tea, I would recommend taking a tour of the house it really is beautiful with a lot of history.
