Featuring modern renditions of classic American seafood, Max’s Oyster Bar menu has something for everyone. While seafood is the focal point, there are selections for even the most ardent landlubber. Ethnic influences are apparent throughout a menu filled with new interpretations on traditional fare. The raw bar offers an extensive variety of bi-coastal oysters and shellfish.

In it’s freshman year, 1999, Max’s Oyster Bar was awarded “Best New Restaurant” by Connecticut Magazine. Since then it has won numerous Reader’s Choice Awards, including “Best Seafood Restaurant”. Zagat’s Survey has also given Max’s Oyster Bar an “extraordinary” rating.

Always excellent food, service was just a tad sketchy, which was unusual. We have eaten there many times and always feel happy that we have.

Great service - good pan fried lobster, mahi and scallops. But Lobster roll was weak - “lobster lite” and not worth the money.

I have had the lobster roll many times there, but this time there was significantly less lobster in it, for the same $35. My wife's oysters were cooked just the way she asked. The place was freezing cold and we didn't bring sweaters - summer.

Oyster sampler was marginal at best. One of them seemed spoiled. Lobster was cold but the fries were good.

Oysters were extremely overpriced @ 3.85-4.10 each, very small and poorly shucked. Still attached to muscle, and some shell fragments. The rest of our meal was pricey but good, hence the rating. Very loud. You would think with the name, oysters would be the star of the show. Not so much. Get them elsewhere. Can’t go wrong with Max paella, tasty, decent amount of seafood. Little strong @ $38, but price of poker.
