Featuring modern renditions of classic American seafood, Max’s Oyster Bar menu has something for everyone. While seafood is the focal point, there are selections for even the most ardent landlubber. Ethnic influences are apparent throughout a menu filled with new interpretations on traditional fare. The raw bar offers an extensive variety of bi-coastal oysters and shellfish.

In it’s freshman year, 1999, Max’s Oyster Bar was awarded “Best New Restaurant” by Connecticut Magazine. Since then it has won numerous Reader’s Choice Awards, including “Best Seafood Restaurant”. Zagat’s Survey has also given Max’s Oyster Bar an “extraordinary” rating.

    Celebrating my birthday, and thanks to the staff, was quickly accommodated when we requested a different table/booth to give the two of us more room and in a quieter location. The food was outstanding as usual including the always delightful chopped salads to start with and then we shared one of the special seafood platters, which was very interesting and did not disappoint.

    The food is always wonderful but the noise is just terrible. I have never been to a louder restaurant. They must try sound proofing the ceiling like others in the area. They are loosing customers.

    Food vs is spectacular. Oysters and fish were great. Too much foot traffic at back table near restrooms and kitchen. Won’t accept seating there again.

    Calamari was great. Service was okay. BLT was underwhelming. Fish was not blackened, correct fries did not come with sandwich. Lobster in lobster roll was rubbery. Overall just okay, will not return.

    Great experience all around! We had 6, and then 7 at the time of our dinner. They were able to adjust on the fly and fit all 7 in our party. Top notch service from Jadin from start to end. She was very attentive to all our needs with a group of very needy people. Very flexible menu to accommodate various nutritional requirements. GF options, and even bread/buns ahead of the meal were GF. Seafood was cooked perfectly and sides were perfect for all options. Too full for dessert, but will be back for another go at some other menu items. Thx!

    Service was extremely slow. Took at least 1/2 hour to get our drinks. Close to 90 minutes to get our meals. Steak and scallops were underdone but we ate anyway.

    The meal delicious ,the service was excellent. I ordered a mock tail it was not on the menu and I was served a wonderful drink. Great experience

    From the greeting at the hostess station to our server every thing was enjoyable. Our server was friendly and helpful with our ordering. The food was delicious right from soups to dessert. I even did a take home chopped salad that I thoroughly enjoyed today. This was a birthday celebration and our guest was greeted by the hostess and server acknowledging her day. They brought delicious truffles to our guest for the day as well as a lovely birthday card. We had a great luncheon here.

    We drove over 2 hours to get to Max’s, and the couple we were meeting did likewise. We were not disappointed. Our server, Christina D.,was excellent and we were not rushed. The food was excellent, too. Two of us had the swordfish for dinner, and the other two had the tuna. The tuna was served perfectly rare/raw, just seared on the outside as it should be. Salads, oysters and a special corn chowder were appetizers. An order of chocolate beignets was shared for dessert. The only reason that I indicated that it was noisy is because we did not eat inside. We ate outside because it was a beautiful night, and occasionally there are cars that go speeding by, making a lot of noise. 5 star recommendation!

    Our first time at Max Oyster Bar in many years. It was a special occasion and we were not disappointed. We began with mussels and salads which were both perfectly tasty. Our entrees were absolutely delicious! We had scallops and chicken. Our waitress, Shelby, was a complete delight . She was extremely helpful in answering all our questions and her bubbly personality added much joy to our experience! Due to our special occasion, Max added some surprise elements that were totally unexpected and very appreciated. We were 100% satisfied and will definitely return.
