Opened in 1991, Max a Mia was named “Best New Restaurant” by Connecticut Magazine in its first year, and “top-grossing restaurant in its size” by Restaurant Hospitality. The restaurant is now in the good hands of Executive Chef Bob Peterson, who has brought an exciting new energy to the restaurant.

Max A Mia is the quintessential Italian experience in the Greater Hartford area. It also continues to garner awards and accolades. Featuring a traditional Italian menu, it utilizes an authentic brick oven that produces stone pies with unmatched flavor. Traditional veal, pork and pasta dishes, as well as inventive risotto offerings, set the mood for desserts including tiramisu and white chocolate polenta cake.

Acoustics are poor. Very hard to converse with friends across a table. Food was good but inability to hear what a friend was saying ruined what would have been an enjoyable evening.

The food and service were outstanding. All three of us enjoyed our meals. Laaagna, cod and short rib rigatoni all were excellent. Everyone we came in contact with was polite and friendly. This restaurant knows how to do service.

Our server Lauren was fantastic! Professional, pleasant, accommodating, anticipating need! Enjoyed the Prix Fix menu selections offered during restaurant. Each course beautifully presented and delicious. The only negative I have is the music …loud and certainly not fitting with the crowd that filled the restaurant.

It was a birthday party dinner for my friend of forty-five years. The helium balloon on the table alerted other restaurant guests to his special day and garnered him extra attention, He was worth it. The slow pace of our meal did not daunt our server or her server-in-training. More attention for the "birthday boy! ! A special crostini treat with pistachios and a scrumptious puttanesca sauce was delivered as a starter and was a delightful surprise. Thank you. Then the calamari came. It was a smidge greasy but that had never before been my experience at Max's. The bottle of Marco Felluga, Pinot Grigio was the perfect accompaniment to his entree of pan seared scallops with seacoast mushrooms and my grilled faroe island salmon. The evening took care of itself. Two old friends (he will always be older than moi), and until next time we will continue to be loyal Max customers!

Impeccable service just like always. Chopped salad for two, chicken Parmesan and a delicious vegetarian lasagna. Everything presented and cooked to perfection. This is consistently one of the best restaurants in the state!

Our meals were wonderful, and the service was excellent. Not sure why, but the restaurant was exceedingly crowded, and as a result, tables were packed tightly together, and it was very noisy. I have heard the restaurant is planning a move to a larger location, which clearly will have a huge benefit in the long run. Do not let the crowd or noise deter you because that was not a typical evening!
