I have been going to Cafe Matisse (now known as Matisse 167) for 30+ years. It has been consistently rated as one of the top restaurants in NJ. The original chef/owner, Peter Loria, created inventive dishes combining ingredients to construct a work of art that was like a symphony in one's mouth. It's where my wife and I go to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and when we're in the mood for something special. In 2023 Peter retired and turned over the reins to Greg Power. Like Peter, Greg is classically trained. We tried it out for the first time under new ownership this past June. In our opinion, it was very good but possibly not up to the previous standards. Last night we went back for my wife's birthday. WOW! Outstanding! Perhaps it took a little while for Greg to it his stride. This was a beautiful dining experience. Of course, it didn't hurt that is was 70 degrees and we could sit outside in their beautiful garden. From beginning to end, it was excellent. The service has never been better. We met Maria, one of the owners, who was lovely and was visiting each table. The chilean sea bass was awesome. One of the best dishes we have ever had there and that's saying something! Other highlights were the octopus and the pumpkin spice creme brûlée. The menu is seasonal so hurry if you want to try that. If you were disappointed (like we were), I would encourage you to try it again. If you haven't been since Greg took over or have never been to Matisse 167, make your reservation. You are in for a treat! If you don't know, it's a BYOB!

We were so looking forward to meeting Greg Powers the new chef and owner of Matisse 167 and taste his new creative menu. It was a delicious and special meal and evening. Most of the staff remain with the transition, but there is a sparkle in the air and excitement about the future . Matisse 167 continues to be a gem in Bergen County and Chef Greg is talented and delighful

First visit and it will not be our last! What an amazing restaurant not only for a night out but especially for a special occasion. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, it was 1,000% wonderful! The food was fantastic, so beautifully prepared and beyond delicious! The service is amazing and everyone went above and beyond for all of the guests who were there enjoying their meals as well. I cannot wait to return!

We ate in the courtyard, which was set up for Halloween… Very cool! Food was outstanding and the owner made sure to personally stop by the table and welcome us… Staff was super attentive and we will definitely be going back!

Food quality and taste was amazing, BUT UNFORTUNATELY the portions were so significantly small and the short ribs were basically purée which was very disappointing! For the price you think you can get one more scallop? Do you think that the short ribs don't have to be so minimal and in a purée form? It was delicious and it would've took just a little more portion to make the experience incredible Waiter took every opportunity to upsell to pad the $320 bill w tip which was annoying ESPECIALLY at this price point. It felt like when you buy a new car and the finance guy is trying to upsell every warranty, etc. Not worth the $320 in my opinion!!! go to Piasonos Italian restaurant up the block for a much better value and equally as good ambience. Trust me. FYI, I never write reviews but I was motivated to share with others

This was a wonderful dining experience. The service was impeccable, and the food was amazing! The ambiance was beautiful. There is nothing that I feel could have been improved upon. Highly, highly recommend.
