Masuya Restaurant is located in a building, which has been designated as a cultural asset, on O’Connell Street in Sydney. This is the same place as the office of Kanematsu Gosho, the pioneer of Australia – Japan trades, was situated in 1980. Masuya Restaurant opened in 1993, then full renovation was implemented in 2006.

The approx. five meters long sushi counter, designed by architect Robert Toland in ‘kabuki red’ with an idea of the stage of kabuki, has since fascinated not only local Australian customers but also various people with different backgrounds.

A showcase displays more than 20 different sushi ingredients everyday including locally produced fish, which is purchased on the day. Other carefully selected ingredients are wagyu beef, free-range pork, and seasonal vegetables. Specially designed tableware of Malcolm Greenwood and tables made of Tasmanian Oak is also creating a great atmosphere. Enjoy your time in this amazing space of hospitality.

Sashimi was amazing but the rolls were poorly made, extreme amount of rice, little content (softshell crab, shrimp) and they mostly fell apart.

The restaurant was too noisy, and it was difficult to have a conversation with normal voice level. I had to speak louder and became tired. I can not choose the restaurant for lunch with business partners. Food need to be represented in the nicer way, dishes on a plate decorated in rough way and did not look sophisticated.

Amazing! 5 Star, unrivalled food and service. I can't praise Masuya more highly than that. I will continue to patronise Masuya regularly and I recommend anyone considering dining here, do so without hesitation.

I love this restaurant for a nice lunch...great food, great service and the staff are delightful. Thanks once again for a great dining experience. I will be back for sure.

Sushi and sashimi always super fresh. Food presentation on point. Service is attentive. Basement restaurant is a little noisy, but can be overlooked because the food and service is first rate.
