Welcome to Masa & Agave, a speakeasy-style cantina hidden below stairs at the historic Hotel Ivy in Downtown Minneapolis. On Thursday's, Friday's and Saturday's from 8pm to Close we are first-come, first-served and do not accept reservations during this time.

Worshipped as the Aztec gods of fertility and long life, venerated for their powers of sustenance, corn masa and agave have been central to Mexican culture and cuisine since ancient times.

Using authentic techniques, we prepare corn masa-based starters and Mexico City-style tacos that are bursting with regional flavors, along with dinner classics like Pork Carnitas and Negro Monelo-Braised Beef Short Ribs.

Our collection of 200 agave spirits pays homage to the jimadores and mezcaleros who have labored over their craft for generations. Sip on a copita or two, or gather friends for one of our signature Margaritas - try the Tradicionale, Tamarindo or a Margarita al Gusto mixed with your choice of spirit. Salud!

The food was magnificent, the tequila and mezcal options were plentiful, and the atmosphere was lively; the only thing that would have made it that much better was the service. Our server was not knowledgeable about what we were ordering, nor was she attentive to our needs in terms of clearing plates and refilling water. Overall, it was a good experience, but be ready to choose your adventure while dining.

It was too dark, in fact, SO dark I couldn’t see my food and it fell on to my plate and splattered all over my new clothes! Reading the menu without a flashlight was not an option. Also recommend adding a few more items on the menu. Your drinks and guacamole and chips are delicious.

Very good craft cocktail program with thoughtful creations. Their menu is quite limited, but the food is tasty and beautifully presented. It’s in the lower level of the hotel and pitch black in there, a bit of a “ Día de los Muertos” vibe to it, so make sure hour phone flashlight is working.

When we were first seated, they put us in the lobby area and told us there were no real tables available. They could sense our displeasure and ended up finding us a table and yes, I made reservations over a month ago. Service was subpar. No one seemed really happy to be there. Food was good, but I would not return.

We didn’t stay. We had a reservation and were guests in the hotel. Staff inattentive, and unhelpful. Got a bad vibe so decided to go elsewhere. Maybe just an off night.

Fantastic service, great ambience and delicious food! Definitely check out the oaxacan old fashioned, spicy Paloma and braised short ribs! A must for before the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra!
