Welcome to Masa & Agave, a speakeasy-style cantina hidden below stairs at the historic Hotel Ivy in Downtown Minneapolis. On Thursday's, Friday's and Saturday's from 8pm to Close we are first-come, first-served and do not accept reservations during this time.

Worshipped as the Aztec gods of fertility and long life, venerated for their powers of sustenance, corn masa and agave have been central to Mexican culture and cuisine since ancient times.

Using authentic techniques, we prepare corn masa-based starters and Mexico City-style tacos that are bursting with regional flavors, along with dinner classics like Pork Carnitas and Negro Monelo-Braised Beef Short Ribs.

Our collection of 200 agave spirits pays homage to the jimadores and mezcaleros who have labored over their craft for generations. Sip on a copita or two, or gather friends for one of our signature Margaritas - try the Tradicionale, Tamarindo or a Margarita al Gusto mixed with your choice of spirit. Salud!

Food is very delicious but there is no communication for when they meals come out. First visit, appetizers and entrees came out all at once so food gets cold as you're trying to eat it.. the second visit we brought friends over to try the food. We all got entrees before appetizers and then our drinks 15 mins after the food.(not a busy day either ) So we decide to give it another chance and one entree and one appetize was done and 10 mins later the rest of the food comes out. as we finished our meals the drinks finally arrived! We enjoy the food but the coordination is not consistent and I must say this was my last time visiting this place.

We had high hopes for our visit, and in some ways, the restaurant delivered. The food was great—flavorful and well-prepared, though not particularly thoughtfully plated. The cocktails were also a highlight—balanced, creative, and worth the wait… though unfortunately, the wait was much longer than expected. While we understand that every restaurant has off nights, the timing of service was noticeably off. Our drinks took so long to arrive that we had already finished both our courses before they even made it to the table. It was disappointing, especially considering how well-crafted they were once they finally arrived. That said, we’d still consider giving this place another try. The quality of the food and drinks makes us want to return, but next time, we’ll opt for a seat at the bar and visit on a weeknight rather than a busy weekend. Hopefully, the service will be more in sync then because this spot has a lot of potential.

We went there to celebrate my birthday (group of 8) Abbey was fantastic! The kitchen ran short of a couple items but the manager was great in making up the difference. We did not feel like we miss out on anything. The ambiance was amazing! The music was great and so was the feel of the place. I have light sensitivity so we chose this location for its dim candlelight. Unfortunately there were two separate groups with bright ring lights taking pictures. I understand it’s a public place and we all want great pics…but it would’ve been nice not to have the bright lights flashing in your face while you’re trying to enjoy dinner.

Great food. Got guac and nachos to start and they were both great. Then shared fish tacos, chicken tacos, and birria tacos and they were all great. Also got the corn elote which was delicious!

This is our third time dining at Masa and Agave. Every visit has been fantastic. The food is delicious but the service is even better. Our server is the reason we keep coming back. Will visit again.

The restaurant was way to dark. You could not read the menu without a flash light nor could we even see our food. Food and service was good.

The food was magnificent, the tequila and mezcal options were plentiful, and the atmosphere was lively; the only thing that would have made it that much better was the service. Our server was not knowledgeable about what we were ordering, nor was she attentive to our needs in terms of clearing plates and refilling water. Overall, it was a good experience, but be ready to choose your adventure while dining.
