    This is a little hidden gem! We’ve been twice inside 3 weeks now and I think I’m becoming addicted. The food is outstanding and unique and the service is excellent. I really like the rather chic modern decor. Be sure to try the nori canapés. They are a signature dish and so delicious! We also loved the the ebi (shrimp) sliders, scallop sushi roll and press salmon roll. Definitely make a reservation as it’s a hot spot. Enjoy!

    Maru is a sushi bar and kitchen in leslieville, just a short walk from woodbine beach. You’ll find some sushi staples like rolls and chirashi don, which my partner and I agreed were done very well. All the raw ingredients were very fresh and well-prepared. We ran into some issues where the menu becomes unique. Their sushi nori canapés are delicious, but not worth the price. We think we should have gotten three for $12, not two. Their Maru seafood crispy rice special was various tempura-fried ingredients in a lobster sauce. Though it was interesting to see lobster, fennel, tomato and asparagus in a Japanese dish, again we felt it wasn’t worth the price of $25, the sauce was boring, and the tempura dried out the octopus and rice too much. Service was passable. My advice to Maru as a humble customer: your sushi is already great, focus the menu on making it even better. I will recommend you, but only your sushi. Your more eclectic creations are more suited to fine dining and need to be honed. My advice to other customers: get the chirashi don. The quality of cuts is decent for the price and we were impressed. Get fried eggplant as a first or second dish. Otherwise, order from the sushi bar.

    Incredibly delicious. The canapés are very special, and the crispy rice the best I’ve had. A delightful balance of flavours and textures. Service was a little slow, but within reason, and very friendly.

    Cute interior, unpretentious and cozy, great ambiance, food was standard fusion but presented really nicely and fresh fish! Loved the soft shell crab sliders.

    The team at Maru are awesome! My wife and I booked my (last minute) birthday at Maru, and the whole experience was great. The food was amazing. Highly recommend.

    Salmon roll was good. Disappointed no shrimp tempura on menu. Hopefully better selection of deserts too
