Old-Fashioned Service in a Modern America
Today, The Marlborough Tavern offers genial, old-fashioned brotherly hospitality as a full-service restaurant and tavern. Peter Varkala, our seasoned Executive Chef, is passionate about bringing local, sustainable food to the Marlborough community. Please enjoy the delicious chicken parmesan made to order in house from our scratch kitchen.
The roots of the Tavern run deep. President Andrew Jackson once stopped in. The Buell family continued to run their business for over 100 yrs, until sold in 1868.
The Marlborough Tavern is older than the United States. The main house, the original home of the Buell family, who built the house sometime around 1740. The Buell Tavern, as it was called back then, was located on “Governor’s Highway,” running from New London to Hartford

Nice atmosphere of historical tavern. Very friendly staff and cocktail menu was great. I had a spicy margarita. The food was well prepared and very tasty! Will be back!

We made a reservation for Marlborough Tavern. We arrived and was seated immediately. To our surprise we got a table for two in front of the fireplace. It’s was very nice. We ordered drinks and food. I got the Chicken Pot Pie and it was very good. My husband got the fish and chips also very good. The only issue we had with the food was the Cole slaw was too salty to eat. It could have just been a fluke since we never had the Cole slaw before this day. Amber, our waitress was kind and attentive.

We love this restaurant and the ambiance. It is charming and cozy. The menu has so many comfort food options which makes this the perfect place to dine!

We love going to the Marlborough Tavern. It was our 3rd time there. This last time, we were sat in the Garden Room. We weren’t thrilled as we love the old rustic charm & ambiance of the 1st two rooms. It was a quieter room with music, but it was a bit cold and didn’t like the lighting. Our Server was ok but she never introduced herself, so we didn’t know her name. On a good note, we love the food, and the 1st part of the restaurant which is beautiful! It has a warm, cozy feeling. We also loved our previous server, Lizzy. We will be back again!

We were very pleased with our Dining experience. Loved the atmosphere. The food was delicious, service was great, the price was surprisingly reasonable for the food and drinks we enjoyed.

We ordered the pretzel - excellent, the flat bread of the day - good, the calamari - flavorless, the turkey burger - fair, too small for the too soft bun, skip the "cranberry" mayo and black bean burger - same bun and flavorless. Our server was delightful and responsive - none of the food was her fault, nor could she have known. The place is exceedingly uncomfortable - every table rocks and the chairs are the indestructible and yet horribly uncomfortable metal chairs that you find in every cheap bistro. There were mismatched Christmas decorations up the first week of February - it appears that ownership or management or both have given up. It is a shame because the menu READS like it would be good and interesting. The kitchen just did not deliver. And the ambience was nonexistent except for the cheerful fire.

Very nice place to meet up with friends. Food was great! Atmosphere great! Loved the lit fireplace. Service was good.
