Manta is the signature restaurant of the iconic Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and has breathtaking views of the Kohala Coast. The menu is a curation of Pacific Rim cuisine with seasonal, local, and sustainably-produced ingredients.
Chef Bryan Nagao has gained formidable reputation in the international food community. He was once described by American media as "the most notable figures in rendering Modern Asian cuisine in the Northern hemisphere". The creativity permeating his cuisine stems from the diversity of his culinary background. Bryan's cuisine is a multi-faceted reflection of his Hawai'i Island birthplace, his Japanese ancestry, and decades spent in the finest restaurants in Hong Kong and Taipei.

                                                              It was wonderful to revisit Mauna Kea after being there with my mother in 1975, so 50 years ago, it was beautiful and ground breaking then, it did not disappoint this time. The food at Manta was delicious, the only disappointment was that the Manta Rays did not come out to play, until the next time. 💖

                                                              Great drinks (Old Fashioned for both my wife and me) and main course (Seared Ahi Tuna for my wife and Ono - Catch of the day for me). Oyster appetizer was excellent, but could have included some hot sauces and small forks. Outdoor seating along the beach was nice although several rows in from the outside perimeter. Service was adequate, although waitress seemed distant (busboy was phenomenal). A luxury restaurant, but still overpriced for the overall experience.

                                                              Another wonderful dining experience at Manta. The menu offers creative upscale treats (seared foie gras, scallop ravioli with caviar, chocolate soufflé), served attentively (Richelle you are wonderful) and made us feel so welcome, an amazing ocean and sunset view that compliments the evening’s divine experience.

                                                              Food was very good. Despite the fact that four out of five main course were served just luke warm. However service quality lacked and was not on the level you would expect, considering the prices asked. Especially since there are other comparable restaurants around Kamuela and Waimea where service is better

                                                              Beautiful evening and dinner on the terrace watching the Manta Ray boats and the lights in the water. Nearby was a fire pit. Great service and well -prepared and served meal. Mahalo!

                                                              Food was amazing. I had seered ahi and my wife had the Mahi Mahi special which she enjoyed. You have to finish with the chocolate souffle. As good as the foods is the service is better. Then the view is the best part. Would never come to Hawaii and not go here.
