At Mallard, Chef Johnson will apply classic and global techniques to the culinary traditions of the south while incorporating the best local and regional ingredients available. Undergirding it all will be a sense of hospitality rooted in Johnson’s memories of the family table.

Mallard’s menu will range from Chef Johnson’s take on classics like Shrimp and Grits with Smoked Pork, Piquillo Peppers, and Tabasco-Shellfish Nage and Wild-Caught Blue Catfish with Poached Oysters, Summer Corn, and Smoked Trout Roe to new creations like Seared Sea Scallops with Cracklin’ Cornbread, Charred Peaches and Dandelion Greens and Crisp Berkshire Pork Trotters with Ramp Chow Chow, Sunny-Side-Up Egg, and Edisto Island Grits. Dessert options include Buttermilk Panna Cotta with Rhubarb and Almond Shortbread and Banana Puddin’ with Cracker Jacks and Nilla Wafers.

Join us for an exclusive communal dining experience at Mallard! Taking inspiration from our namesake, Chef Hamilton Johnson's bespoke menu features duck in every course and is designed with your delight in mind. Guests will begin with a welcome cocktail and light snacks at the bar, then will move to the private dining area for a communal, family-style dinner with optional curated wine pairings. Please note that due to the communal nature of this event, substitutions cannot be accommodated.

Food was very good, and very rich! Come hungry. It was crowded so wait times were long but it allowed for a more relaxed, unhurried meal for a change.

Vibrant restaurant with tasty and creative food. Table service was not very friendly though... the place is very cozy and well decorated.

Mallard was truly an experience! I had high expectations and it truly exceeded them! The food was impeccable, the service warm, knowledgeable, and attentive, and the ambiance so inviting! Can’t wait to go back!

I heard about this restaurant through a TikTok post while away on vacation. I knew when I got back to the city I had to get there. From the moment you walk in, you are greeted with the best “Southern-like hospitality.” The decor to the styling is superb. Our server, Jonathan P., was the perfect host to walk us through our dining experience. The food is out of this world!

Dinner at Mallard DC was exceptional! The food was flavorful, with each dish perfectly crafted, from appetizers to dessert. The service was impeccable, attentive without being intrusive, and the staff’s knowledge of the menu truly enhanced the experience. Highly recommend for an unforgettable dining experience!
