Magpie is always available for walk in dining!

Magpie is a family owned and operated independent restaurant in Midtown Sacramento. Since 2005, Magpie has served farm to table fare that reflects the values of life in California’s Central Valley. Our menu has an interesting mix of dishes highlighting the season's best offerings of share plates, bites, and entree's.

We are more committed than ever to our mission of celebrating what makes our city and region special, and contributing to it by making seasonal, farm-to-table food in Sacramento.

We are walking distance from California's state capitol building and convention center on the corner of 16th and P Streets overlooking the beautiful tree filled Fremont Park. The lively restaurant space features artwork and murals from local artists with bar, booth and table seating. The open patio has a variety of tall and low tables surrounded by live edge wooden benches and Magpie's iconic yellow umbrellas.

We had an amazing meal at Magpie. The anchovy toast and the hummus appetizers were outstanding; each entrée was excellent. Probably the pork chop was the hit of the evening, but the trout was super as well. Shared desserts - ice cream sandwich and also the carrot cake cookie. You can't go wrong dining at Magpie. Always something exceptional and locally sourced. Ed and Janel know what they are doing!!

The food was great, service was great. The only thing that would have made it better was if they had a better selection of wines by the glass. The tables are also very close and there was a very loud group of women sitting next to us - why do people have to yell at each other during dinner? I might ask to be seated somewhere more strategic next time, but definitely worth going back!

Happy to know overall you had a nice time at Magpie. Sometimes people can almost have the whole place to themselves in the afternoons on the days we are open noon until dinnertime if you prefer a quiet space. Thank you!

The food didn’t seem to have a clear cohesion. We ordered a main and four appetizers plus desserts. The cookie ice cream sandwiches were the best. Unfortunately, we were upcharged for bread which we didn’t want, but the waitress insisted on as well as hot sauce. In the future, it would be great if staff would let you know ahead of time you’re being charged for small condiments.

Original menu, really deliciously prepared, great service. Noise level inside was ok for two people dining, but would be difficult for a group. Outdoor sidewalk dining looked very nice.

I drove by this place for weeks before I was invited to have dinner here. What a great surprise! Food was amazing! Can’t wait to go back and try something new.

Service and food ALWAYS on point here no matter what time of day you come in. Very friendly staff. My favorite restaurant in Sac. I love bringing my friends here.
