Magna Kainan is the passion project of Chef Carlo Lamagna, Food & Wine’s 2021 Best New Chef and 2022 James Beard finalist and Chef Max Mackissock (Michelin recommended A5 Steakhouse and Michelin Bib Gourmand awarded Ash’Kara). Kainan, which means “eatery” in Tagalog, will be a refined, woodfired approach to Filipino comfort food..
At Magna Kainan, just like our sister restaurant in Portland, Oregon, Magna Kusina, our mission is to share the vibrant flavors and rich traditions of Filipino cuisine and culture through a contemporary lens. Whether you’re new to our culinary heritage or a longtime fan, we aim to create an experience that resonates deeply and sparks joy and connection.
We believe in the power of food to bring people together. Our doors are open to everyone, and we look forward to creating a space where great meals, creative cocktails and a warm, welcoming ambiance unite us all. As we say in our family, “Mangan tayon!”—Let’s Eat!

Truly enjoyed eating at Magna. Highly recommend if you would like to try great Filipino food. They had all the traditional food but with a modern twist. The cocktails were amazing. And the service was exceptional.

The ambience, staff and food were fantastic. The light wood decor brightened up the space and loved the colors of the napkins were a good nod to the Filipino flag. Loved the menu showing the name of the dishes in filipino. The pork and chicken skewers were tasty. Loved the papaya relish on the chicken skewers. I am also appreciative to the server's, Jeff, attention to my mango allergy. The kare kare was yummy. The oxtail was cooked nicely (fall off the bone) and the dish was like how my mom cooked it. The lechon was cooked perfectly. My only ding on that was it was a bit pricey for the portion size; however, I know how long it takes to make it good so I can understand. My Ube Colada mocktail was tasty. The staff was super attentive and friendly. Again, loved our server Jeff. Overall, it was a great experience. Loved how the restaurant shared the Filipino culture and am super excited to return!

Dinner was absolutely amazing! Apps and drinks were so so tasty. We ended up ordering another round of some of the exact same things we ordered, we just couldn’t get enough! Wait staff was super attentive and friendly, making sure all of our dirty plates were taken away almost immediately and keeping our water glasses full! Definitely a super beautiful restaurant as well, with a huge variety of seating options, don’t forget to drop your coat off at coat check beforehand. Kaylin was our server and they treated us like VIP’s! Making sure we had all of our accommodations met (I am vegetarian) as well as keeping the drinks coming! We loved the dessert recommendation as well! Definitely a must visit for the official opening! We will be back soon!!!

Fantastic service, our server made great recommendations and offered excellent pairings. The food was incredible, great night out!

Keep in mind this review is only for their early party before the business officially opens: We paid $55+/pp for tickets/reservations to the Porkapalooza experience. We entered on our reservation time just to watch non-reservations walk in and get all the food and drinks for free. Strangers even stole t-shirts, which my husband paid for and ended up not getting his correct size when he had to remind them of his purchase. By the time we were there, the pig roast was over, but the food being handed out was still delicious and the meats were fresh & warm. The menu of the future restaurant opening will be spectacular and exactly what Denver needs.
