   Fabulous afternoon tea. From the moment we sat down, attentive staff. Food was incredible- delicious flavours from the pea starter to the orange and cinnamon scones. Endless tea and fabulous fizz!

   Not up to usual standard . Had to wait 20 mins to be served and asked twice for water on the table . No Plymouth gin and waiter didn’t know what it was . Very dissatisfied today seems to have lost its quality today

   Lovely environment… staff polite and helpful. Afternoon tea involved good sandwiches and small quiche and fabulous scones. Felt cake selection was very poor.

   We have pre-dinner drinks here often. Had to ask several times for where our drinks were. Had to ask several times for tap water. Service was slow. Bar was not busy . Staff are friendly but need to be more aware. We didn’t seem to have a designated server - so were asked several times by different staff for different things. Expect better than this with the Grand Hotel.

   Delicious sandwiches and scones, imaginatively-crafted cakes, a wonderful range of teas, and a glass of Prosecco: all served with care in a relaxing ambience.

   We did not eat on this occasion, we just visited for after dinner drinks from the nearby Pasture restaurant. We have visited Madeline's on numerous occasions, it's our go to bar whenever we are in town, we love the tasteful décor, the ambiance and of course the excellent service it offers. It's such a relaxing bar to enjoy a cocktail or two, if you haven't yet been then your missing out on one of the best venues Birmingham as to offer.

   A little unfair as this was in connection with a visit in the afternoon and not the evening visit booked. We have stayed at the Grand over a dozen times and also go the the cocktail bar. My son and I pop down for a quick beer and we are given a spot, standing at the bar (which is fine for a quick beer). We stood like absolute fools for half and hour, being ignored by all servers. We tried to get their attention but were ignored. Embarrassed, after half an hour we collected our jackets and walked out to get a drink over the road. Very embarrassing, totally unprofessional and unnecessary.

   Food choice was ok the menu could be a bit more varied, however what we had was good. Environment was lovely. Service: staff were polite and fine however they were significantly under staffed and following inefficient processes. Nearly all customers had to ask to be served, for original drinks and subsequent drinks and had to chase to pay bills. We cancelled our second round as service was just too slow, but when you look at the number of customers, they were just obviously under resourced. Four staff to greet, clear, make cocktails, coffees, teas,serve drinks and food for at least 60+ customers. Management need to support this bar more.

   Dear Cathy, Thank you for your time and for your honest and constructive review. Absolutely, on the day you visited us, sadly we had staff shortages which put enormous strain on the team which sadly led to standards being dropped. Although it doesn't happen very often, there are times that we struggle, I am sorry that it dampened your experience. At Madeleine we pride ourselves on our service delivery.    Lovely afternoon tea experience for myself, my husband and my daughter who is visiting from New Zealand. Food was delicious and service was excellent. Staff very attentive and we tried a large variety of teas which was a pleasant change from other afternoon tea venues.
