Macon Bistro & Larder is a locally owned neighborhood restaurant serving re-invented bistro cuisine in a warm, friendly atmosphere. Tony Brown, inspired by his southern roots and his world travels, brings together the cooking styles of Macon, Georgia, and Macon, France. We have recently opened The Magnolia Room at Macon to accommodate more diners during dinner time. The Magnolia Room at Macon is located down the hall from Macon in the Chevy Chase Arcade on the left hand side and affords guests a more intimate and spacious dining experience. Depending on volume during peak dining times, your reservation may be seated in The Magnolia Room, offers the same great food and service.

We ordered two glasses of Pinot Grigio that were $11. on the menu. We got the bill and were charged $14. We asked the waiter and his answer was that they change the menu all the time. We did receive a free glass of wine that we really didn’t want or need at the end of our meal.

Our salads were very good, but the short ribs and the steak were tasteless. The shrimp and grits was good although the shrimps were over cooked.

My friend and I started our catch-up dinner splitting a delicious beet, orange, and burrata salad, which was not what we ordered. We had wanted to try the grilled peach, tomato and whipped feta salad, but because we were talking, we didn’t realize we had the wrong thing until we took our first bites. The kitchen did offer to replace it, but not wanting to waste food, we just enjoyed what we had received. The restaurant did not charge us for the salad, which was nice. I ordered the mussels, which came with “croutons”. Because our server said these were small (i.e., salad size) we ordered the biscuits. Maybe southern biscuits are supposed to be crunchy, but I prefer mine somewhat more tender. And they turned out to be superfluous as the “croutons” that came with the mussels were large strips of, like, garlic toast – tasty and appropriate for dipping in the sauce. The mussels were ok, and my friend’s salmon was “fine” but neither one of us plan to rush back to Macon.

Great neighborhood place to sit outside, watch the people walking by, all the while enjoying wonderful food served by attentive servers. A great place for both neighborhood people and any others wanting a great French bistro (or Southern) meal.

Very good neighborhood spot. Food was delicious!! We got Brussel sprouts, warm bread and butter and I got the roasted beet, orange burrata salad with shrimp and my friend got the happy hour burger sliders with sweet potato fries. Did not give 5 stars just because the table was quite sticky, my friend had 2 knives in her napkin instead of a fork and knife, and the service was a bit slow to take our orders. Very friendly service otherwise!

This was our first time at Macon & we loved it and will definitely return! Melvin, our server is attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. He made it a great Mother’s Day! Hush Puppies, are noteworthy. Delicous brunch - very fresh food. And they happily provided a box for me even though it didn’t look like much left. ;-)
