Macesz Bistro is an Eastern European bistro in the Old Jewish district of Budapest. It offers the hidden and well known treasures of the Hungarian and Jewish cuisines, with traditional and reimagined courses for their guests. The continuously updated menu is ensured by chef Ákos Tasnádi, beyond the á la carte assortment the daily offer’s seasonal specialties diversify the selection.

We take great care of assembling the wine list, offering from the best domestic wineries with some specialities.

We reopened Macesz after the pandemic in the spring of 2022. We can not wait to meet again our haunters and new guests as well.

The restaurant is suitable for exclusive events with up to 60 people as well.

Macesz Bistro is one of the most exciting culinary spots in downtown Budapest, an excellent choice for a romantic dinner, a family lunch or a business meeting.

We had an excellent meal here! The beef stew with spaetzle was fantastic and the chicken breast with orzo wonderful as well! Great service & charming ambience.

We had a great waiter who understood that this was a family get-together and allowed us time to catch up before ordering. Service was attentive but never rushed, food delivery was timely once we ordered. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and the food was very good. Macasz turned out to be a great choice!

Booked at the last minute and was able to reserve a table for two. The restaurant filled up during the evening and there was a happy, sociable buzz around us. The quality of the food was excellent but the portions over generous. Quite pricey but very enjoyable nevertheless.

My wife and I very much enjoyed this dining experience on our first night in Budapest. I was a little weary as the menu was not our typical restaurant fare but we were put more at ease with each course. The duck consume matzo ball soup was delicious as was the duck pate (the best duck pate we can remember having). My wife loved her lamb and I enjoyed the salmon. Her 3 course chef menu came with a dessert that she didn’t like (they poured palika liqueur on it) and our waiter was very nice and exchanged her dish for another that she very much enjoyed. We will definitely come back here next time we visit Prague. Also the total bill came out to roughly 110USD with me getting cocktail, 3 courses, side dish bottled gas water and her having wine pairing for each course including service charge. Great value for the food and service!

The whole experience was Excellent!! Food so tasty and the service Great!! I highly recommend it!! Try it and you will be happy!!

Definitely recommended. I took Macesz menu and my husband had Chef's menu. Both enjoyed but my soup and dessert was better :) I wrote a note from Opentable and asked if they could put a candle on the dessert for my husband. I wasnt sure if anyone read it but our desserts came with candle and happy birthday song. Super sweet !

Service was impeccable. We were seated promptly. We ordered a cucumber salad that was lovely. Note. If you order the steak and don’t want it bloody do not order medium rare. I loved it but be warned. Mainly tourists but still good
