Conceived with legendary chef and food activist Alice Waters and led by acclaimed chef, writer, and cookbook author David Tanis, Lulu is a shared celebration of good food that is good for the planet. Lulu is a restaurant committed to prioritizing sustainability through local, regenerative food and design. Our mission focuses on procuring food directly from small, nearby farms practicing regenerative organic agriculture, which results in wholesome, delicious food grown using methods that combat the climate crisis.

Our restaurant is named after a wise Provencal cook, Lulu Peyraud, whose cooking and hospitality at Domaine Tempier in Bandol, France has always inspired David and Alice.

Please join us at LULU for a special luncheon with our dear friend Joan Nathan, celebrating her new cookbook, A Sweet Year: Jewish Celebrations & Festive Recipes for Kids & Their Families. This is a free event for our lunch guests, hosted from 11:30 am to 3 pm, and all are welcome—especially kids! Joan will share stories, sign cookbooks, and lead a hands-on challah braiding demonstration that’s sure to delight the whole family. Cookbooks will be available to purchase at the restaurant. Our lunch menu will feature dishes inspired by recipes from Joan’s book. In the wake of recent events, this gathering will be a much-needed moment to come together, break bread, and find comfort in community.

It was a lovely evening except that the birthday of our special guest was not acknowledged. That was disappointing.

Another incredible meal & time at Lulu. The staff is always friendly and prompt. The dishes are all cooked to perfection. The ribeye is exceptional. Can’t wait to return again.

Until last night, LuLu (which we’ve perhaps visited around a dozen times) was our favorite restaurant. But as we told the manager, our dinner last night was the least satisfying meal we’ve ever had there. Here are some of the reasons why. The menu was unusually limited. Among the limited number (4) entrees were 2 pasta dishes. (The others were a fish soup and a beef dish). We have come to expect the food at LuLu to stand apart from other restaurants, but not last night. Much of what we ordered was bland or undistinguished, including scallop appetizer, Spanish tortilla and fruit crumble. The one exceptional dish was French onion soup. But it was served in a small ramekin (looked to be about 3/4 cup), which was half filled with bread. It literally contained just 6 soup spoons (i.e., tablespoons - or 3 oz) of soup. Essentially what I got was a $14 “teaser” (as our server described it). And while our server was friendly, she pretty much forgot about us after she greeted us. We will be hesitant to return to LuLu and - until they can demonstrate to us that last night was an anomaly - will no longer recommend it to friends.
