Before the James Beard Award and the Gourmet Magazine review, Lotus of Siam was a small little hole in the wall located in Commercial Center in Las Vegas. November 1999 was the month Chef Saipin and her husband Bill took over Lotus of Siam. Since then, Thai food became an adventure for those willing to step out of their comfort zones for Asian Cuisine. Chef Saipin’s distinct cooking has been passed down from generation to generation, from both her grandmothers and her husband’s grandmothers. Her northern style cooking has opened America into the “Northern” world of Thailand, away from the Bangkok style of sweet and tang. The northern menu consists of hearty herbs and spices, along with Thai style stews and coconut-less curries. Through her set menus, our guests can dine and enjoy recipes from over 100 years in the Chutima family.

I live in Chicago where there is no shortage of very good Thai restaurants. Lotus of Siam is, very possibly, the best Thai restaurant in the United States and that is no hyperbole. Specifically anything off the "Mom's Menu" or Northern Thai menu is going to be spectacular as this is where the family is from and the recipes are superb. Don't get me wrong, if you are a Pad Thai person it's going to be fantastic but I like to get the stuff that has the history behind it. Notable dishes, the Northern style Larb which we had with chicken, the crispy duck curry and lollipop chicken which we had with the Tom Yum rub. It's a highlight of any trip to Vegas and a singular foodie Mecca that should not be missed.

The service was great. Good quality was good but we expected more! Unfortunately Most dishes were filled with cabbage to make it look more full! The sea bass was great.

We were a party of 12 with most being newbies. Food was off the charts good. I always come back here when I’m in town. My friends love the food.

Had a wonderful dinner. Most disappointing, although maybe not surprising, was they tried to pass a $100 bottle of wine to us to drink in place of the $300 bottle we ordered. Always encounter the restaurants that give you the wrong year, but a different vineyard was a first. Everything else we loved. No - we did not bother ordering a bottle…

Food and service was great. My only complaint about my experience is that it seemed like they were rushing us to finish our food and leave so they could turn the table. Food came out quickly and hot, its a very fast-paced environment.

We celebrated a birthday with a party of 6. Service started out great with Ana, however, everything changed when the food came. Two of the 6 people had issues with their dish. It took 20 minutes for them to receive the corrected dishes. When we complained to our server about the time it’s taking for them to correct the dishes, our server asked if we wanted to cancel them Huh? Why would we cancel?…..they were hangry by that time. I asked for a Manager after we all ate to complain about the service. His name is Drew. He lacked empathy and was pretty uninterested in the complaint, however, he offered to comp the birthday girls meal only after we expressed our disdain with the way he handled the complaint. It took another 20 minutes to settle the bill. It wasn’t a pleasant experience at Lotus. Although the food is amazing, the service was lacking!!
