Duck confit was excellent. Gnocchi was nothing special. Had to wait 20 minutes past our reservation time,in a stairwell, waiting for a table to free up.

We shared five dishes - cheese plate, seafood crepe, duck confit, sturgeon and orange cake. Each was excellent with well balanced, complex flavors. A real treat and good value too.

Everything was outstanding! Only small complaint I have is my clothing smelled of food the rest of the evening. Eventually they will need to improve the kitchen exhaust system. I can’t wait to return regardless!

Excellent dining experience at the chef’s counter. Small, medium, and main dish was filling, but the proper amount for a healthy appetite individual. Plus dessert, always.

I was fortunate to have dinner out with my daughter and and having it at L’Orange made it even more special. We both love good food and we were not disappointed with our meal. The chicken liver mousse tart is not to be missed. And the duck confit was prepared without bones and couldn’t have been any more delicious except for the finale, the orange cake, it was truly outstanding. There were many more things I wanted to try so I will return.

Our first visit, and we had one of the best meals we have had in Portland for a long time. The high praise in the NY Times is fully justified – the only drawback getting a reservation in the small restaurant. Even three weeks ahead all that was available on a Thursday night was at 17:00 which is earlier than we usually eat dinner. Even though the menu is small, it was difficult to choose what to have as all looked exciting prospects. Luckily we had looked at the menu on-line, but made our final choices at L’Orange. My wife and I had lovely small plates first – she had the chicken liver mousse tartlet, and I had the tête de moine cheese (sometimes called “monk’s head cheese”), and the waiter described how the rosettes were made. We both love duck confit and opted for it as our main course. Their interpretation was unconventional, but fabulous! The duck was all off-the-bones and compressed into a “brick”. It was soooo good! Even though they have a fascinating, reasonably priced, wine list, the great thing is they do not charge corkage at the minute – we took what Hugh Johnson recommends for confit, a Madiran, and it was a fabulous match. However, to start with we had glasses of a good Brut Rosé from the Loire Valley, and for dessert I ordered a wine but it was out-of-stock, but they comped me a glass of a Vin Jaune from Jura as an alternative, We recommend L’Orange to anyone who loves great food and wine – and suggest using Lyft or Uber to get there.
