From chef, cookbook author and PBS star, Vivian Howard, LENOIR reminds people that the South is a nuanced place with a storied history and disparate terrain that shapes us as well as our food traditions. Here we cook to perpetuate, honor and evolve the cuisine of the rural, agricultural South, and we back it up with hospitality that buys into the idea that food with a story tastes better. Named for Vivian’s home county in eastern North Carolina, LENOIR exalts the pillars of Southern hospitality and leaves people feeling like they are guests in our home rather than patrons in our restaurant.

We had the most amazing dining experience to celebrate a birthday! All staff members worked in concert to provide the highest level of hospitality and accommodated our every request. We would like to especially express our gratitude to Brenna our server for her personal menu recommendations and insights. Each course of our meal was created to our desires and presented with grace. Outstanding food, ambience, service and attention to detail made our special evening a fantastic experience!

We wanted to eat at Vivian Howard’s restaurant so we could finally taste some of her delicious looking recipes we’d seen on the PBS series “A Chef’s Life”. We were not disappointed!!! I was excited to try the wings with blueberry BBQ sauce. YUM! And the peculiar pork chop was the best pork chop I’ve ever tasted. The service was great! Very warm and friendly. We’ll be back when in Charleston! Love you Vivian!

Our second visit - over a year apart - and it was just as great as we remembered. Highly recommend!

Having been to 2 of her NC restaurants, we were looking forward to this one. Food ok but absolutely nothing special. “Catch of the day” in Charleston was salmon?? Service great but menu insanely overpriced - $12 for non-alcoholic limeade, $4 for iced tea, I ordered the side dish squash casserole as an entree - $10 for a fritter. We’ve dined all over the world & some places are worth high prices/some expected. For this casual place with average food…won’t be back nor recommend. Such a disappointment from Howard.

We had a delightful experience at Lenoir! We ordered shared plates and they were all delicious and flavorful. Our wait staff was attentive and helpful with suggestions. Thank you Lenoir!

We went to dinner with friends and between 4 of us split about 70% of the menu. Food was hit and miss - trout and pork entrees were great while shrimp was overly salty. Tomato pie dish was a standout. Burrata salad was underwhelming - soggy limp old looking greens and a few pieces of beets. Not the most beautiful presentation. Blueberry chicken wings were interesting flavor combo, quite unusual pairing and the blueberry sauce was delicious. We ordered all the desserts - carrot cake had a good flavor but was on the drier side, and unfortunately we couldn’t eat the peach cobbler as it smelled off and fishy? Drinks were great and the service was quick and friendly.

This was our first time dining at Lenoir and it was an amazing experience! What a wonderful neighborhood gem with a nice bar and dining area. We shared the street corn appetizer and I had the tomato pie and my husband had the trout. Delicious!! Service was very friendly and helpful with making our dinner selections. We came into Charleston to do some shopping and had an early dinner before returning to the beach. Look forward to coming back next time we are in Charleston.

Definitely on the top of my list! Cocktail was perfect! Loved asparagus Caesar salad and the tomato pie was out of this world! Will go back soon and highly recommend. Service was outstanding as well!

I celebrated my birthday with my best friend and my mother at Lenoir. The food was great, and our server was outstanding; Very present, very courteous, very knowledgeable, and very friendly. Definitely try the fried collard greens, they are amazing!
