Legals is a safe go-to for us because they can accommodate our need for gluten-free alternatives. They rarely disappoint, but it’s not a wow experience usually. Service was particularly good this night and the food was fresh and delicious. I love that they let you know when the seafood is local (and sometimes when it’s not) as I try to purchase local seafood when I can. I also particularly like the location of this Legals as it’s right across from the New England Aquarium so many times we’ll pair a trip to the Aquarium with a meal at Legals afterwards. Very convenient especially when we can make a reservation using OpenTable.

Did Duck Boat Tour and had free cup of delicious clam powder for the 3 of us. Best crab cakes! Reservation worked great.

Unfortunately my experience wasn’t great. I ordered the twin petite filet and to be cooked medium. They came out with a ny strip. Sent it back. Came back out with what i ordered about 25 min later and the steak was rare. They took it back and microwaved the steak to the point of being inedible. They gave a new cook in training. The side dishes were decent. The waiter brought the bill and was contemplating what to do. Thankfully she left and came back and said my meal was comped. I didn’t even ask for that but it was well deserved. My friend enjoyed her amazing fried fish as she is GF and there were so many items she could chose off the menu! If I go back, I’ll definitely order that.

Our server was friendly and checked in often. She offered more drinks and dessert. The food and drinks all came out quickly. We were not a fan of the high top table. Our daughter kept pushing the table around with her feet because there was no where for her feet to rest. The table was also not level, I was afraid our wine glasses would end up in the floor. The white sangria was very watered down and not worth $16. I had the lobster Mac n cheese which also tasted watery. The lobster did not have flavor. All I could taste was the flavor of the bread crumb topping. My husband has the whole belly clams, several were sandy. We will spend our $200 else where in the future.

The meal came before we had time to finish our soup and the fisherman’s platter was over fried and too dry. The lobster role was delicious, as was the clam chowder. Overall, it was a good experience, we just expected more.

This rating suffers from the fact that I was last at LSF in the 80's. The place was a quieter and frankly a little fancier than what we experienced last night. I'm not sure it was ever elegant, but, more refined than what we got last night. I could come here just for the chowder; it didn't disappoint. The Haddock was really good, the Bay scallops good, I'm not a real scallops fan. Rita was terrific, attentive and quick on a Friday night. My memory of the LSF at Cambridge Ctr may have impacted my review; I was a much younger man; it seemed really special back then. I remember the soups, the salads; and the bluefish pate. Amazing pate.

We had Legal Seafoods' Friday special Fish & Chips lunch, and it was outstanding. The portions of fish, fries, coleslaw were generous and the value was very good. We try to take advantage of all Legals' special lunches/dinners. They are well worth it.

Overall, if you are traveling and want New England fare - it's decently good. I recommend the crab cakes. They say it's their specialty and it's good. Not a lot of food for the price, but I'm from Nebraska, so that's my reference.
