The charcuterie and cheese board was very disappointing. The pink champagne and red wine we had were both very good. Staff friendly and good.

It was a terrible experience. We go out every week for dinner more than once. Also we all work in hospitality. We had booked Valentines day as a special occasion about a week in advance. Maybe they were too busy on the night but how we regret our decision. First of all we were seated in the wine cellar. All freezing we had to wrap up with shawls and coats, when asking for a warmer spot we were told they were full. Fine. The foie maison was good. The duck confit was acceptable. The problem was the cheese fondue. We initially mentioned to manager Laurent that we believed the bread was dry (i have had over 100 cheese fondues) but he touched the bread, said it was supposed to be this way and threw it back in our bread basket. Ok still no problem so far. We believed him that we were wrong. Then the cheese fondue went all stringy, which in my 44 year of life I have Never experienced before, we again said we were not enjoying it. Laurent opened the pot … said we had at least half of it (we were 3 diners) and said there was nothing he could do. We did NOT eat any more fondue or dry bread crumbs. We had 2 bottles of wine, the bill was £200+ as is normal nowadays and he knows we left utterly unhappy. Not one gesture to make up for it. Please do NOT go here to ruin your special night :(

Many thanks for your visit and your lovely review. Not really surprising to notice that, after our refusal to allow you a « commercial gesture », (even after presenting yourself as Food Critic), you have, with your friends, decided to start a vendetta with unfair and biased reviews. Contrary to your assertions, you had the best table of the night, in our private cellar, and the chance to keep it for more than 2 hours 40 minutes, on that very busy night of Valentine, despite your late arrival. You have effectively requested plenty of things during the evening, some toasts for your foie gras (but we serve it only with baguette since our opening), some fresh bread for your cheese fondue, and a different fondue. More than welcome to go elsewhere, with your requests and expectations.

Avoid at all costs. The food was bad... but wasn’t the worst part. The manager takes pictures of all the leftovers. To trap unhappy customers. This is a 'bad food trap'. On first regard this restaurant seems like a nice discovery. But it was an awful disappointment and ends up in an a terrible argument with the unreasonable manager. The facade and wine selected set a promising evening ahead. The mixed platter to start was fine. The steak tartar was very poor, lacking any flavour or authenticity. The boeuf bourguignon was quite dreadful, meat was extremely tough with a nasty after taste, the sauce insipid. We could not get through our main courses, it was a hardship. I told the waitress we weren’t impressed. I wish I had not bothered complaining, the manager was obviously primed for this and attacked very quickly with forceful aggression. Laurent abruptly showed me pictures on his phone of our uneaten leftovers! What sort of person does this? He had these pictures at the ready, to prove we ate some of the food. This is a disgusting sight and a warpred, volting tactic! He must get many complaints to refine this strategy over the years. Shame he hasn’t spent his time refining the food. The chef was knocking out substandard dishes, he wouldn’t listen, just thought we wanted free food. No one turns dinner away on the first bite, no-one wants to destroy and evening out. Not to worry his chap was here to make sure we left feeling utterly miserable within ourselves. As part of his attack, he even threatened to the call the police. Beyond belief. Basic French home cooked food would have been nice, this was sadly made with no care, no skill, no idea. But what was worst? Being bullied and despised for complaining. As you can see, within the other complaints here, the owner bites back with no care. Expect him to show the same arrogance and lack of respect to this post.
Most of all, expect the same lack of care in this cold, dead, damp basement trap.

Paul, your aggressiveness and your politeness are outstanding. Your three lovely reviews (Google, OpenTable and Trip Advisor) are the perfect example. We have been accused to serve "Dog food" and that our kitchen team was doing "S......t". Furthermore, you have indicated your refusal to pay the bill, despite having eaten the starter, more than 75 % of your mains, and of course, having fully drunk your bottle of red wine. We have informed you that we shall contact the police, regarding your attitude, and your partner was quite concerned by such attitude. Sad and unfortunate as we have spent time (15 minutes) on your arrival to help you choose a bottle of red wine, with one principal request (value for money). We have been bullied and you did not accept our position. Nothing else to add.

At lunchtime this is a welcome quiet spot, for a very good meal ( mains about £19 to 24). Pleasant surroundings and a warm reception, for a get together with friends.

This is a wonderful place and feels quite special. At a basement in Sandra London not many people know this little jam. Food as expected French bistro style.
