Pourquoi ce sont des Perles rares

D'après les éditeur·rices d'OpenTable : Cette icône de la gastronomie française éblouit les Vancouvérois depuis 1983. Le chef légendaire Michel Jacob a passé le flambeau à son ami et gagnant d'Iron Chef America, Rob Feenie, en 2024. Feenie continue de célébrer les origines françaises du restaurant tout en y incorporant certaines de ses racines de la côte ouest. Attendez-vous à une sole désossée à même la table dans un beurre blanc aux herbes, à un steak tartare et à d'autres classiques servis dans une élégante salle à manger nappée de blanc.

    Always a lovely time with exceptional service. It was our first time back since Rob Feenie took over and we were not disappointed. (Did miss the Amuse Bouche of what we would describe as Crème Caramel Pate but not enough to feel missing out). The Beet Salad was outstanding. Steak, Risotto and Dover Sole were delicious. Excellent Wine list and great advice to assist in matching.

    Disappointing! This new iteration of Le Crocodile by Rob Feenie does not measure up to Michel Jacob’s previous standard in so many ways…starting with the demi baguette which came with salted butter that’s so over the top ( i.e. saltiness is not a virtue here ) which became the theme of all the rest of food, overpowering and salty taste of sauces! Confit garlic spinach sauce for frog legs, sweet soy duck jus for the duck breast, a reduction kind of sauce for the lamb ( which looks similar to the duck sauce). Plating is uninspiring. The creme brûlée for dessert summed up the overall experience for me (it was served neither warm nor cold, at room temperature) the food was neither this nor that! Service was excellent though, in keeping with the fine dining style of the restaurant! Noise level was high, but tolerable.

    Very good meal, first visit since Feenie came on board. One of the better services and meals I’ve had. Jesse was fantastic.

    Every mouthful was perfection! Last minute booking meant that we were seated at the bar but that did not take away from our experience! In fact, we enjoyed interacting with the bartenders and learning more about this amazing gem!

    Really enjoyed our dinner. Food and service were top notch. Really busy on a Friday night, which was great. Not sure why I didn’t come sooner.

    Finally tried le crocodile after the new ownership as it was one of my favourite restaurants ever. The renovations were refreshing as it was like a modern twist to the previous crocodile. What we ordered: 1. Foie Gras terrine - One of my favourite dish was the crème brûlée Foie Gras which I was quite disappointed that it was no longer on the menu . It was replaced with the Foie Gras Terrine - decorated beautifully , taste was 8/10. Liked how they incorporated pickled onions for a refreshing spin to the dish. Would prefer the original one as the texture was a lot creamier w/ a little brittle crunch from the brûlée & the subtle sweetness makes the dish to die for. Really hope they would bring it back). 2.Escargot The flavours were 100% there . Sauce was impeccable . 9.5/10 3. Beef tenderloin As a beef/steak lover, I would not order this again. Surprisingly & as strange as it sounds..the tenderloin was overly soft . Not in a juicy way, but reminded me of some Asian dishes when they overly put baking soda to tenderize the meat, and it was left to marinate for too long/ texture was a bit mushy. The sauce was good, but definitely never had that kind of texture from a piece of tenderloin before. Sauce was good, just was not a fan of the meat at all - 6/10. 4. Fraser Valley Duck Breast Duck & Foie Gras was cooked perfectly, just like before !! However, the orange coloured purée part of the sauce.. I was not a huge fan off. It tasted like peanut butter/ sesame which slightly overpowered the flavours of the beautifully cooked duck & Foie Gras. But the dark brown jus was de-li-cious. 9/10 The Service & ambience was great ! Overall would go again - 8/10

    Had the tasting menu with wine pairing, which was excellent. Sommelier Jill was especially outstanding on the wine pairings.

    10/10 Our third time dining here since new ownership and somehow it has actually gotten even better than the already amazing experience le croc offered before. The new beet salad in particular is a very creative and perfectly balanced dish. Impressive.
