Le Coq is James Beard Best Chef finalist Tara Monsod’s new wave French steakhouse. Inspired by the modern Parisian culinary landscape, chef Tara reinvents classic dishes through her signature approach, blending cross-cultural references and ingredients for a distinctly SoCal expression of French cuisine. Bright touches and hyper-seasonal products ground the menu with San Diego style, while nods to chef Tara’s Southeast Asian background are interwoven throughout. Located in downtown La Jolla in a 1930’s historic building with exposed brick walls, steel trusses, and a barrel-vaulted ceiling. Into this storied shell is inserted a posh 1970’s diner club.

Straight from the heart of Paris, we’re thrilled to welcome our friends from Les Enfants du Marché to Le Coq for a special two-night collaboration. Savor an exclusive à la carte menu at the bar, paired with crafted drinks and DJ-spun vibes. Sunday, October 13th, 5:00-8:00pm Monday, October 14th, 5:00-8:00pm Before opening Le Coq, Executive Chef Tara Monsod traveled to Paris for R&D and staged at Les Enfants du Marché, an avant-garde dining counter nestled in the iconic Marché des Enfants Rouges, famed for natural wines and innovative cuisine. You might even recognize them from an Action Bronson episode on YouTube. A $25 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your reservation. This amount will be credited toward your final bill.

Absolutely 10/10 experience. A lot of “trendy” places in sd worry more about the vibe/look and food comes second but NOT le coq. The food was outstanding very detail oriented and quality. The chef does not miss and the owner is a lovely human. Same owner as herb and wood, animae etc. a sexy restaurant.

Food is really good. Expensive restaurant and still comes with the now famous 4% surcharge at the end… Taste amazing, nice decor, nice service.

Excellent food and service. Celebrated my wife’s birthday and the staff could not have been more gracious. Atmosphere is modern but not painfully so; lively setting but the high ceilings help keep noise levels in check. Food (steak frites, roast pork, potato dauphine, tuna tartare, baguette with chicken skin butter, pistachio Paris-Brest) was very good. Our server was knowledgeable and answered our questions but had a relaxed, friendly and caring demeanor. The prices reflect the quality of the food, setting and the sheer number of folks working the floor - it’s not a place we will or can visit every week, but for those special occasions I can’t think of a better place.

Aesthetically it’s a pretty restaurant and bar. Service was good. Food for price was a no for us. The flavors were not bad but nothing memorable or amazing,definitely a one and done for us.

Service was great and the food was fine but all our food came out cold. The onion tart, the creamed spinach, and the mushrooms were all cold. A little disappointing honestly.

My latest obsession. Everything is such a vibe. Not only is the food wonderful, but feels like you’re getting an experience of being in a 70s French restaurant having the time of your life. Terrific bread service, best chicken liver mousse I’ve ever had. Duck is exceptional. Happiness is effortless at le coq.
