With locations in Chicago, Houston, Atlanta, Delray Beach (2023) and Lake Forest (July 2022), the famed Vietnamese restaurant is designed to capture a bygone era of sophistication and opulence. We've been to La Colonial a couple of times. We invited our friends, thinking we would get great experience and customer service, but that wasn't the case. The ambiance is pretty, and the food is good but inconsistent. Last time, I would have given the La Colonial drink a 10 out of 10; this time, it was at most a 3 out of 10. The server was confused and disorganized. We had to wait extended periods for our food and drinks. The server took our orders and then forgot them, so we had to call him again to place the same orders. Getting drinks took 20 to 30 minutes. It was busy, but not extremely busy. The server didn't pay attention. Overall, it was a disappointing experience, and I hope they improve their service.

We enjoy this restaurant regularly and for special occasions. Tonight was iffy at best. Food was wonderful as always, but the service was rushed…bus staff very aggressive in clearing the table at each course. Literally the plate was taken out from under my husbands last bite as he was trying put the fork to his mouth. I had to ask them not to clear my meal as I was just taking my time. Not pleasant at all. We were put in the “back room” not the main dining room ( maybe because we had a 6y/o with us)? He is very well mannered but not sure that was the issue. It was my birthday but nothing special happened-average table, rushed service, no birthday acknowledgment! Oh well, food & company were great!

Had a reservation for outside and was informed by the hostess they could not accommodate us after showing us to another table inside. It was very off putting especially since we were willing to wait a little bit. Disappointed to say the least but the food and wait staff were great.

We had a reservation and still had to wait 20 + minutes to be seated. We did sit outside on the patio, which was lovely on a warm summer night, but our service was slow and we had to remind our server a few times to bring things we requested. When our food finally arrived, it was not quite hot, making me believe it had been ready and had simply not been served in a timely manner. We have dined at this location (and the Chicago location) many times and overall, this was not up to the usual standard we have become accustomed to at Le Colonial.

Our food was very good. We did order the red snapper which was market price. My husband didn’t ask the price. It was $115. It did serve 2 but I thought it was a bit high. The week before we dined elsewhere and had the snapper for $42. But it was only one serving. The old fashion cocktail was $28, which I thought was very high. Our waiter was not the best. Friendly but spilled my drink, forgot to replace my napkin and charged us for one additional drink. Then came back and told us we were right, only 2 grey goose. Of course we were right. But food was outstanding.

Overall an excellent experience. We asked to be moved from the room where the bar is as the noise was too loud and were accommodated. All the dishes were excellent. I would have given it a 5 but the Halibut for the two who had it at our table was a bit overcooked. A difficult fish to get just right.
