Le Colonial is a celebration of seductive spirit and vivid flavors reminiscent of Saigon in the 1920s. With locations in Chicago, Houston, Atlanta, Delray Beach (2023) and Lake Forest (July 2022), the famed Vietnamese restaurant is designed to capture a bygone era of sophistication and opulence. Heralded as "an escapist’s paradise," celebrated restaurateurs Rick Wahlstedt and Joe King deliver on exquisite attention to detail in a luxurious classic and romantic atmosphere in the iconic Market Square of Lake Forest. While the food was nice, it was overly salted. Our server also put in the wrong appetizer order and it didn't help that we were constantly bitten by mosquitos while seating outside. Lastly, we asked for our meal to be packed to-go, only to find out that all the shrimp that was left in the plate had been tossed out. It was a poor experience compared to what we usually get in the downtown/Gold Coast location.

Wonderful outdoor seating. Our server Lavet was fabulous and the food was wonderful. The people at the front desk were friendly and accommodating!! We loved the experience and can’t to go back.

the space is lovely, good food, great service from Jonathan but there were flies and other insects coming onto our plates & food. We mentioned it and were told “oh yeah, it happens due to our open doors to the patio” really? not a good situation. The bar is noisy with sports on a big tv screen which doesn’t seem to match the restaurant’s style. and both rest rooms were out of TP.. it’s the little things that ruin the overall good experience

We made reservation over 3 weeks ago for my birthday. Le Colonial is our favorite suburban restaurant. We love celebrating birthdays there and were there in May for my husband’s. I said the occasion was birthday, reminded you when I got reminder reservation and told the woman who tried to seat us inside. She said we could wait 2-1/2 hours to sit outside (which was my request when I reserved). We went back to maitre d who first said 45 min for outside and then sent us to a lovely table. We again reminded the server that it was my birthday. She brought dessert menus and did put a candle in the sorbet we ordered (for which we were charged). We weee not given the creme brûlée which is always birthday dessert at the restaurant. Appetizers and entrees were delicious as always.

Great menu. We had chicken dumplings and split a curried shrimp. Fun lemon dessert creative stuff. Wonderful waitress.

Great atmosphere and great cocktails but food is hit or miss. There are some good salads and appetizers but the entrees have been very mediocre every time we go. It was quite busy both inside and outside patio last night. Happy to see the restaurant doing well but wish the food was better.
