The Late August name derives from the joyful time of year when the Sears catalog would arrive at your doorstep, bringing a deep desire and wonderment to all who would receive it and begin feverishly circling the items that would hopefully arrive for Christmas.

Our restaurant, set in the previous Historic Downtown Sears building, seeks to bring that same wonder to guests through its atmosphere, service, and cuisine. Echoing the mission of Lucille's Hospitality, which is committed to “Serving the Past, Feeding the Future,” Late August’s menu explores the culinary heritages of Chef Chris Williams and Chef Sergio Hidalgo by bringing the dishes and flavors from both their youths and the experiences to date creating a culturally culinary celebration.

    I have been following Chef Williams since Lucille’s!! So proud of his James Beard Award finalist nomination for Outstanding Restaurateur in 2022 and his semi finalists nomination as well!!! I knew Late August was going to be special, and it sure was!!! Chef Williams has assembled the “Dream Team”!! Chef Sergio Hidalgo and Danny Davis, sommelier/ general manager, and the awesome bartenders and staff!! I was blown away by the wine selections! The Three By Wade, born out of Mr. Dwyane Wade ‘s love of great Napa Valley Wines, paired great with everything, thank you Chef!! I also love the wines by Theodora R. Lee, aka Theopatra, Queen of the Vineyards who bottles her own award winning wines. Shis a Texan and San Francisco trial. Lawyer!! Of course I had to try the gumbo, being from Louisiana. It was so amazing with nopales and chorizo and it paired great with the outstanding potato salad!! I love a good hummus, but this one made from field peas, topped with chorizo and with the amazing Fry bread, was the best hummus I have had!!! The crispy octopus with shrimp chorizo was divine! Thank you, Chef for your creative fried roots, and not having the typical truffle fries that every restaurant has on their menu!!! Looking forward to trying the Kifto and Cabrito Stew next!!!

    This is my second time here, and it definitely won't be my last. From management to the wait staff; food to the ambiance, it was all on point. I ordered from the Houston restaurant week's menu options and my date ordered from the regular menu. Everything was the perfect temperature with a phenomenal taste. I even had the mocktail flight that comes with the Houston restaurant week's menu and each drink was delightful and interesting. The bartender, Tyria (sp?) made some good calls. Our server Byron, and the manager, Danny were great conversationalists. They kept the night fun and flowing. It's always a good time going here. The food and drinks have never disappointed. If you're looking for tasty , satisfying Michelin star level food without the astronomical price points, this is certainly the spot to be. I'm glad I am able to experience their greatness on the ground level before they take off to the grand heights they're destined for. 😉 I highly recommend the Pork Confit, the half rack of ribs, and the Mexican chocolate mousse! Yum!

    First time here, nice quiet ambiance (surprisingly so for a Friday night). Understand that the restaurant just had its ‘real’ grand opening, so maybe the word is still not out yet. As for the food, I’ve tried a few is the small plate-items, which were very filling. I enjoyed a wonderful and fresh-from-the-garden, tomato and watermelon salad; my husband had a cup of gumbo that he said felt like a bowl; and we shared the crispy octopus. I also had a delicious Coconut Mojito cocktail. We came for a pre-theatre (The Ensemble) and it is conveniently located near that theatre, Match and other places in Midtown. Only tried the small plates this time, have it return for an entree.

    What a wonderful dining experience. Server greeted us and made us vey comfortable. The venue, in the old Sears building is very cool and retro. I ordered the fiery fruit cocktail and the presentation and taste were great. We had three entrees at our table and they were all delicious. We had the donuts for dessert and they were delicious and with a nice personal presentation. The meal was fairly priced. All in all, a great visit.

    My experience here was delightful as always. The manager, Danny, is the best. We were here for a birthday celebration and it rocked. The food always amazes me and is just right for any occasion. They're Houston restaurant weeks menu is spot on for a great tasting and representative of what the unique Houston food and fun atmosphere is like.

    Salty food. Skimpy Ceaser salad. Awful bar service very slow second martini had 3 tablespoons of gin. Never again

    I really wanted to love this restaurant, but the service was so terrible that it prompted me to write a review in hopes that things improve. We say our waiter only a few times thought the night, and the busboys were more helpful than our actual waiter. The food was okay flavors wise, but it all came out cold and our chicken dish was very dry. The dessert was also very disappointing, and lacked flavor and was overly sweet. This is not an inexpensive place to eat, so given the price point I do not recommend.

    Ambiance and staff were excellent but food was a disappointment. Flavors were bland and the seafood wasn't very fresh.
