We make British food with a classic or modern slant. We source our ingredients from the local fields, woodlands and waters. Everything is cooked on the premises, including the sourdough bread and the icecreams.
The Good Food Guide (2023) says: "A fittingly quaint old building, complete with original features, given a suave modern twist via grey panelling and contemporary furniture. Chef-proprietor Martin Peacock has built his menu on classical French traditions and impeccable sourcing and there’s real creativity and originality on show here. The international wine list offers a decent but not overlong selection, with accessible pricing.

Vegetarian: we will always offer at least one starter and one main vegetarian choice. However, we cannot cater for vegans.

Due to current government Covid-19 rules, we cannot welcome a party larger than 6p. We welcome parties 8-12p on a general basis. However, for Saturday nights we are only able to accommodate a maximum of 8p. For larger parties (13–32), we are happy to create special menus which you and your guest preorder from. The latter would be available Wednesday to Friday, Saturday lunch, and Sunday lunch.You can only book a maximum of 6 people via Open Table. Please call us if your party is larger than that and we are happy to assist to find a suitable time for you.

Really excellent meal. Quality ingredients, really well cooked. Perfect service. But neither the food nor the service overly fussy or over the top. Just all done well. And very good value too. Three courses, bottle of wine, glass of port with my dessert and all jot too far north of £100. Had a very average meal out on our other night in Rye, and the bill wasn’t much cheaper. I would highly recommend the Landgate Bistro.

The food was amazing. Every person in our group was really impressed with their meal. The food itself was reasonably priced, but bottle of wine a little pricey. Great evening.

Whist staying in Rye for a week end Landgate Bistro was recommended to us by our son My wife & I enjoyed a fabulous meal on Friday evening. The starters of scallops and carbonara were excellent both in presentation and taste. We both chose Lamb as a main which again was well presented and delicious. We enjoyed a Muscadet wine with our meal from the extensive wine list .

We had been intending to visit for a long time and I’m so glad we now have; This was one of the most enjoyable meals we’ve had in a long time. Small, cosy restaurant with a lovely atmosphere. Only one front of house staff but the service was Impeccable. The food was fantastic, the best we’ve had in a restaurant in a long while. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole evening and are planning to return regularly.

A couple on holiday. The Landgate bistro is not one of those big places but a smallish welcoming bistro. The menu was excellent so we found it difficult to choose, having made our choice we then received two portions of focaccia with a dip and then along came an amuse bouche of a mini fish cake. Both delicious. Our shared choice of scallops - excellent. Mains Guinea fowl -excellent. Desert - just had a scoop of mango sorbet and vanilla ice cream was a lovely finish to an excellent meal with friendly service. Considering the quality of the food the price was reasonable. If we lived in the area we would certainly go again.

What an amazing place. We were staying at a local B&B and were recommended this restaurant and were so glad we were able to book a table. Everything about the restaurant was too notch, most importantly the food was excellent and more than lived up to our expectations. Would heartily recommend and hope we get the chance to go again.

The food was absolutely delicious. The service was very friendly and efficient and the ambience was delightful. All round, a very pleasurable evening. We will become regulars.

Excellent evening. Great menu choice from a personal point of view. Well cooked and presented food with lovely tastes and variation Service attentive and relaxed. It was our fourth visit over 4 years ( each time we visit Rye) and the standard has been maintained and stayed consistent. We will visit again next year.
