La Viola - West offers an authentic Italian dining experience. An excellent place for date night, it has decor that includes wood furnishings, crisp linens, and soft, romantic lighting. The menu at La Viola - West includes a variety of pasta along with grilled and roasted meats such as veal, chicken, and fresh fish.

An array of desserts, hot coffees, and sodas are available to order with your meal at La Viola - West. However, no alcohol is served, although you are welcome to bring your own bottle with you. Offering catering services and designated event space, the restaurant hosts special parties and celebrations upon request.

Back when I lived in Philadelphia over a decade ago, I used to frequent La Viola's original location. It was, simply put, the best Italian restaurant in the city in my view. The food was always superb, the prices extremely fair, and being BYOB meant it never broke the bank. I had not been back in a while. And that was a mistake. Although I went to the new location (Ovest), I was instantly taken back to those wonderful meals many years ago. I was dining alone, so I only ordered two things from the "summer menu." The gazpacho was a surprise as I had not encountered it at La Viola before, but it was delightful. Light, tangy and refreshing. Could have used a splash of olive oil, so I added some from the ample bowl supplied alongside the (wonderful) bread. My entree was my favorite pasta, the black linguine with seafood. Astoundingly good. Dinner was a memorable treat and a valuable lesson was learned: next time in Philly, I won't forget to revisit this truly remarkable culinary gem!

La Viola West Is one of our go-to restaurants in Center City. Our friends have never been there before are definitely coming back they said. We go there often and always enjoy it. Tonight we were a party of seven with out of town guests and they were thrilled. They thought the value was perfect and the food was outstanding. Sometimes you have to sacrifice one for the other, but not at La Viola west.

You can do better with boxed pasta and jarred sauce. I am nearly certain they are using premade pasta and sauces themselves. Everything was overcooked: meatballs, salmon, shrimp, and pasta. No color or visual interest in the dishes. Bland and salty sauce. The Parmesan looked and tasted like a refrigerated grocery store sections bottom shelf. The plating was disconnected and wildly varied between each of our dishes. Strangely inexperienced and frustrated service. They weren’t rude, but rather clumsy and struggled to get through the table for just water and silverware while constantly reaching around with awkward angles. Prices were not egregious, but there is simply no reason to pay them when a city with as strong a food scene is all around you. You may find yourself in a dining room much unlike you expected more akin to a 1980s gentlemen’s club than a modern restaurant charging modern prices. Perhaps they are hiding behind authenticity but it only feels lazy when inside. The food dismisses any claims of authenticity well enough on its own. There is nothing special offered here, you will find a real experience at many other places in the Philly. I am stunned to see positive reviews. I rarely leave a review for anything unless I am stunned by the quality of the whole experience or the lack thereof. This place resides wholly in the latter.

I first booked West but when I got there another person in my party that arrived before me was already seated but was at the Bistro (even though I booked West). The Bistro is cash only so it was a bit annoying but fine...The food was fine...nothing noteworthy but the dinner portions were VERY small. Even if they skimped on the meat there wasn't even that much pasta. I would have been embarrassed to serve that small of a portion. I go out to eat often and there are sooo many better Italian restaurants in the area.

Fantastic little Italian place with a bistro of the same name across the street and the employees and owner were all tremendously kind and willing to spend time and effort to ensure an incredible experience.
