La Trattoria is a family run Italian restaurant specialising in seafood. Gerry and Louise Forte opened La Trattoria in 1970 and since then, it has been run by the family.

During the current Coronavirus outbreak there are restrictions in place, please read them on our website and make yourself aware of them.

Despite the current situation, we are now open again and hope to welcome you soon.

    A lovely evening at La Trattoria. The service was prompt and great - they accommodated our specific needs well. Food was great - lots of choice - fresh ingredients, really well presented and tasty.

    Have lost count of the number of times - and years! - we’ve used this restaurant. Great food with fast/freindly service. The wines could be better quality, but, for a mid-week non-occasion meal are fine. It is a very popular place and, consequently, you can expect to feel a bit wedged in. We always see loads of people getting turned away and wouldn’t advise turning-up in Peak Season without a prior booking - note that the maximum advance booking time on the OpenTable app was 3 months. Used to think it was a bit on the pricey side, but, having tried the new competitor up near the railway station, would now say it’s just right.

    The food is just excellent and great service. Only one issue we got our main dinner 20 seconds after the starter plates where taken away. Not even a minuets break. Otherwise lovely.

    We book a table here every time we visit swanage. Service is always friendly and efficient. Food always looks and tastes delicious. Tiger prawns in garlic butter were scrummy. Pasta carbonara was lovely and my lasagne was bubbling hot. Good portion size. Book ahead as they were turning people away at the door, as so busy. Attentive service, no waiting. Fair price fir the size and quality of the meals we had. We' be back ... again.

    Lovely meal at La Trattoria, we felt welcomed and the restaurant had a lovely atmosphere - and the garlic cheese bread was divine!!!! Our table’s only small complaints were there was that the garlic was very overpowering in the carbonara pasta, and the mussels that came with the seafood pizza were very sandy/gritty inside, which was a shame. Otherwise superb venue and we will choose different food options next time :)

    If the fact, that the more intimate section of La Trattoria was closed, had been advertised on the website, I probably wouldn't have made a reservation there. It was for our wedding anniversary and couldn't have been less conducive to an evening appropriate for such an occasion. With very plain table settings and a noise level defying any chance of communication, I would not return. Until we'd had our dessert, the service was impeccable but thereafter we thought we'd been forgotten: I waited forever to ask for an espresso with Sambuca.
