Since 1996 in Cruz Bay, St. John. A Favorite of locals, loyal repeats and new guests. We just moved to our new beach location as La Tapa Plage in March of 2022, still featuring the same interesting ever changing menu including fresh local seafood, organic greens & herbs form Coral Bay, flavors with a touch of Spain & France (Basque Country), Germany and Caribbean. Our goal is to make you feel welcome, cozy and inspired by our great wines, delicious food, good service in a beautiful atmosphere. ---Open for dinner service at 5PM Friday through Wednesday. For parties larger than 6, please call the restauarant at 340-693-7755.---We will be open for Thanksgiving, but closed on Christmas Day.---December 24th through January 1st our menu will be adjusted to a Prix Fixe menu. Price TBD.---**We do not have high chairs or booster seats. If you need either, we do have bench seating in the dining area that work's best for small children. Please request bench seating when making your reservation.**

Great place for tapas. Octopus was great. Lamb meatballs amazing. Josephine salad beautiful. Food was amazing. Wine was very good.

We had a great time at La Tapa. The gorgonzola Cesesr salad and gazpacho were a great start combined with the bread tray with various dipping oils and sauces. We split the huge order of seafood paella and it was loaded with prawns, shrimp, octopus, fish, sausage, mussels and clams and a wonderful saffron rice. Plenty for two. We paired it all with a Montes Purple Angel Carmeniere wine that was decanted and chilled on the warm, humid evening. It was perfect. All in all a really lovely meal, and service. The only detracting aspect was a couple of boats that pulled up to the beach and played a very loud mix of party edm and rap music that really didn't match the vibe of our meal. It kind of grew on me but some of the other guests were mad about it The price of freedom I guess.

Every time we go to La Tapa, we are impressed with the food, the view, the service and the atmosphere. Our favorite restaurant on St. John for many many years. Owner & chef Alex make it all happen and she does it so well.

La Tapa is a lovely setting, menu is always interesting and delicious and the staff are amazing. A must for any visit to St John VI

The setting is exquisite, the service is TOP notch, the food is creative and mouth-watering with portions large enough for a go-bag. The entire experience was unforgettable, and I can’t wait for our next visit to La Tapa.

I’ll start with the positives. The staff, from the wait staff to the manager is well trained and very service oriented. Also, the drinks were excellent. From there, the restaurant was a huge disappointment. If you are going to make pan con tomate with what amounts to commercial store bought white bread with a few cherry tomatoes on it and zero creativity, take it off the menu. The pasta dish with shrimp/seafood could have been made by my kids and would have have been better. Almost every dish we had was the wrong combination of poor quality food and bad preparation. The desserts unfortunately followed the same trend. I wish I had taken a picture of the sad Thai roasted pineapple sorbet sitting on an oversized plate with 3/4 of the plate empty. How much effort does it take to actually maybe put a piece of fresh pineapple somewhere on the empty plate? $400 dollars later for 4 people we felt pretty ripped off. Go somewhere else. Lastly, if your restaurant directly faces the sun and at 5:30 is a a searing face against the sun experience at least give the patrons some shear curtains or some cover for that 1 hour period. The people next to us left immediately after finishing and didn’t order dessert due to the heat. Accommodate your patrons with a little effort.
