Housed in Chicago’s Belle Époque building, the unique Art Nouveau-inspired space honors the iconic building’s legacy while providing guests with a one-of-a-kind atmosphere and menu. La Grande Boucherie blends the ambiance of an indulgent steakhouse with a refined Parisian brasserie charm, and fuses traditional French cuisine with Chicago’s River North culinary heritage. The two-story restaurant boasts custom curved stained-glass windows overlooking the bustling streets of Chicago. This was my third time at this restaurant and tonight was my least favorite visit. Our server spoke to myself and my guest (both of us are French speakers which we told him) like we didn’t know French cuisine and kept trying to upsell and tell us his favorites is a very unnatural way that felt pushy. Our table was too small to accommodate our plates and menu at the beginning of the meal. Our steak came out and we didn’t have plates or silverware. Just wasn’t a polished service you expect at a restaurant of this caliber and when the server started calling me « senorita » it just killed the vibe. The salade lyonnaise was under seasoned, and the 4 tiny crostini with the foie gras mousse were too few, but the ribeye and creamed spinach were very good. So was the profiterole.

Delightful place for lunch or dinner with a special French vibe. Our latest visit was for lunch where we shared a salad and French Dip along with coffee and a desert. Everything was well prepared and service was perfect as we lingered a bit longer than usual.

Beautiful building. Excellent food and good cocktails. Good service. Will definitely return. Try staying away from the tables that are close to the host stand. It feels like you are away from the restaurant.

In a gorgeous space we dined very well. Very attentive service and very good food. The only reason it is not five stars is the noise level which was not energetic but ear shattering! The lobster bisque was particularly good, and also the very unusual sea bass bouillabaisse. The latter is different from every one I ever had (a lot).

The food was outstanding. I thought the steak tartare was perfectly seasoned. It was refreshing to have the chef come to our table to make sure our experience was great.

The server Cami was an absolute delight ✨🫶🏽and very helpful with wine selections. She even told us when to come in for a lower traffic day. The food was an experience! And when my friend’s leftover French onion soup (which was fabulous i don’t typically even like it) was accidentally trashed they made him a fresh one to go! Try the Dijon mussels and oysters!! We will be back. Thank you again Cami!🧡

We ordered the restaurant week special. The bread was great. The French onion soup was good except a little too much cheese. The chicken was just ok. Tasted a little burnt with the grill marks. Great staff and ambience.

We went for lunch, on a Monday, so it was very quiet, and the room is nice. Our server, Dimitri, who is also the bartender, was excellent, he made perfect wine pairing suggestions. Portions are quite large, we wanted to try several things and ended up taking food home. The burger is fantastic, the eggplant gateau so good. The escargot has a little tarragon in the sauce that added a pleasant note. The onion soup was not my favorite, it was under seasoned, but still not bad.

Dimitri was our waiter. He did a fantastic job of reading the table and being responsive. Overall, this was a great experience. Food was wonderful. It is vastly under-rated. I will be back!

There are many new French restuarants hitting the Chicago scene. This is one of the very best of those.....amazing food, sumptious authentic French decor with professional service. It checks all of the boxes.
