Just off the Main Street area. The front doors are solid black doors with brass handles look very elusive. Once in you’re transported to the French Swiss Alps with an aged lodge type feel. Meals are served with soup and salad. My soup tasted homemade made I could have eaten 3 bowls it was so good. The salad was thoughtful but below average. We had steak and chicken. The protein quality was above average and were cooked perfectly. The sides; rice, potatoes, asparagus and carrots were underwhelming and didn’t match the high quality proteins. All in all this is a great family restaurant and I would return anytime I’m in the area and I’m looking for a quality meal.

Although the service was excellent, the food was not. The mushroom soup was cold; Luke warm at best. The Boston lettuce salad with Dijon vinaigrette was weighed down by too much salad dressing. We both ordered seafood and both dishes were drenched in soggy buttery breadcrumbs crust. The vegetables were overcooked and had no crunch. The best part of the meal was the bread and butter, which tasted like it just came out of the oven . The tables are so close together that you can hear the people seated adjacent and the overall feeling was claustrophobic.

Another wonderful evening spent at Le Gare! I brought 2 friends for a first time dinner and it was wonderful! Keith provided impeccable service, the food was just delicious, and a great time was had by all! Thanks for a memorable evening!

I took a chance choosing this restaurant for our anniversary dinner while visiting from South Carolina, and it paid off spectacularly. We loved our meals, and my wife even said I 'hit a homerun' with this choice. We both had the beef wellington, which was the best-tasting beef I’ve had in a long time. The wine list was impressive, and the service staff was excellent. Although there was a small issue with the bill (some extra items were mistakenly included), our waiter quickly caught it, apologized, and resolved it promptly. We dined in the beautifully decorated outdoor area, which provided the perfect setting for an intimate and enjoyable conversation. Overall, it was a fantastic experience that made our anniversary dinner truly memorable.

We were a group of 5 women celebrating a birthday and had a wonderful time! We felt welcomed warmly, the waitstaff were professional and friendly and the food was excellent! A terrific way to celebrate a special occasion. Although one in our group has been known to eat at La Gare 2 or 3 nights in a row if she is in town!

After going to La Gare for almost 40 years, myself and the rest of our group was a bit disappointed. The prices have gone up, but quality is going down. The crab cakes were the biggest disappointment as they were mainly filler and hardly any crab, which is exact opposite from in the past. At $20 a crab cake, this is totally unexceptable. The main courses were good with the exception of the Spanakoptia which came out looking burnt and was tasteless besides. Our server was slow and unatentive to get our courses on the table and was not around to pour more wine. It used to be that La Gare was a great value with especially great food , but I am not thinking of going back anytime soon.

La Gare is a very cool place. Francophones can speak French with their waiters. The food is excellent and plentiful. We ate there for the first time recently after flying into Sonoma Airport. What a great find just a few minutes away. Loved it. I wish it were closer to St. Helena where we have our home.

We have been to the restaurant before. We were seated right a way. It was a slow night and the restaurant was not crowded. Another party of two was seated just before us for the same waiter. This caused the initial service to be a little slow. I ordered the "Escalope de Veau Cordon Bleu" and my wife ordered the "Demi Canard a l'orange". I had the onion soup as my starter which was good. (I didn't care for what they were offering for the soup of the day.) The veal was ok (the included potato side where crisp and tasty). The duck was absolutely delicious. The house Pinot is a good wine and went well with our dinners. For desert they brought out chocolate mousse for my wife's BD.. it was light and chocolatey. I also ordered a desert. (house specialty chocolate dome or something like that) it was very good too. Cake, caramel and chocolate.. how can you go wrong? Overall, a nice evening. Last time we were there, there where four of us. We ordered two of the flaming deserts (one of each). Don't do this. They combined the cherries and fruit together. Three of us got fruit and the last person just go syrup (glad it wasn't me :-).

Had a wonderful experience at La Gare. The service was amazing! Food was quite good and just the right amount. The sourdough rolls are a highlight! Will definitely return!
