La Bussola has been serving Kelowna since 1974 and is proud to boast the largest wine selection in the Okanagan today. La Bussola is owned and operated by the Coccaro family; Lauretta Coccaro the chef & owner operates the restaurant with her son Luigi Coccaro. The restaurant's menu changes seasonally using local and/or handmade ingredients wherever possible, and includes rotating classic dishes from the original menu from when La Bussola opened 43 years ago.

We wanted a place that was quiet and a relaxed atmosphere, where we could talk. The friendly greeting as we entered was carried through to seating. The attentive service without hovering was nice and reminded us of how things were when we used to go out for dinner years ago. Nice to have a place that has great food and wine list and guaranteed a wonderful evening. This is the way service should be!

My wife and I made a reservation late mid-week after attending an event downtown. It was quiet and relaxing, the food was impressive, and the service from Ricco(?) and Michael was excellent. I enjoyed geeking out on wines with Michael and liked their selection of wines by the glass and their extensive wine list. When in doubt, be sure to ask Michael for recommendations.

5 star in all respects - until it came dessert. Extraordinary wait. Two “soon” visits by waiter but no explanation.

Let's start with the positive. The pasta is made fresh and it's really good. However, it goes downhill from there. Let's start with value. As an example, I ordered the meatballs for my antipasto - $19. How many meatballs do you get for $19? Two. Exactly two. My wife ordered the scallops. She thinks there were scallops in the five bites she had on a plate for $26 but not entirely sure. They weren't big enough to identify. Service was fine. Nothing outstanding but you quickly get the impression that this restaurant is trying really hard to be something it isn't - fine dining. It's what you would expect from a upper level restaurant from the late 80s to early 90s. It's now dated and tired. Worst of all is the value. $140 for 2 people - before tip. That gets you 3 glasses of wine, 2 starters, and 2 pasta dishes. Added to that, my wife ordered the carbonara and although the pasta was fresh, the sauce seemed from a package. And bacon and cream in a carbonara dish? We couldn't finish it. I thought this was to be authentic Italian? Quite possibly the worst Italian meal we have had and had to pay through the nose for it. Although this Italian family has a history, they have been in Canada far to long to claim to have authentic Italian cooking. Massively disappointing...and expensive.

Outstanding quality of service everyone being extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the city being travelers. Food quality was amazing and perfect portion for my wife and I

Our anniversary was celebrated at the restaurant with another couple. It was reserved as an anniversary but no special acknowledgement such as a complimentary dessert was offered. Some staff seemed rushed and indifferent. Ambient Italian music would have provided a nice background but was absent. The ladies enjoyed their veal Marsala very much. The men ordered special of the night - veal Parmesan and didn’t enjoy it much and would not order it again. The special was not a special price - $39.00 as were the other veal dishes on the menu. It seemed expensive. Years ago La Bussala was a special experience with the owners playing a big part of the experience. An after dinner drink would be complimentary after a fine dining experience. Alas - the previous owners are no longer working there.
