A first for the city of Halifax, Kyo Kitchen & Bar fuses traditional Japanese cuisine with new-age Izakaya inspiration. Kyo translates to ‘home’, a feeling we have tried to capture with velvet cushions, low lighting, abundant greenery, and unpretentious food. Kyo is such a great place. The staff is always so helpful, our server gave me a great drink recommendation, it was delicious. The food was so good. And our server was so sweet. Definitely a favorite spot for us

First time at Kyo. We enjoyed the experience. Food was good. Enjoyed sampling the different sake.

First time visiting and will definitely be back. The cocktails are top notch. Excellent food and service with a nice vibe.

We arrived at 7:55pm. Our medium plates came out at 8:20 and the ramen came out at 8:50 which was a bummer. The restaurant, albeit very small, was pretty full so I understand that the food may take longer but I thought it was a bit unreasonable. The Tonkotsu ramen was not very flavorful, just salty. The Yuzu Miso ramen was not good. On the other hand, the Panko Ebi and vegetable tempura were both delicious. The Gentou Season (cocktail) was really good. We also got a bottle of Umeshu but received the wrong bottle which had black tea in it so we couldn't sleep that night. It was jazz night (live music) when we went and it was insanely loud. The restaurant is really small and all the windows/doors were closed because of the cold weather so I'm not sure why the music was turned up so high. My friend and I were sitting at the furthest table from the performers but we were full on yelling at each other to talk. The servers are really nice but overall, it was not a positive experience.

This was an unexpected gem of a restaurant. It was a first visit for all of us. The dining room has a lively downtown vibe. It was moderately loud but one could easily carry on a conversation without having to shout across the table. The cocktail menu was varied and interesting. The cocktails were prepared by the mixologist with great care and precision-an entertaining show in its own right! Our server was very helpful,good natured and professional in every way. The service was efficient and unobtrusive. The menu was also of good variety and grouped into different sized plates. There were six of us at the table so we shared multiple dishes. All were excellent.We did not try the ramen. The food was excellent and delivered to the table in short order and at the perfect dining cadence. All in all,this was an exceptional dining experience. It is certainly much better than some of the higher profile restaurants that have opened downtown recently. It deserves to do well and is worth more than one visit.

We have been here before and it was incredible, the food is good but the service could’ve been better. They seemed to have a scheduling problem and told us that we might have to cut it short for other guest reservations. Felt rushed which was unfortunate. But the food was good and the ambiance was very neat.
