Edinburgh’s first gourmet steak restaurant, Kyloe Restaurant and Grill is found within The Rutland Hotel in the city’s West End, complete with castle views. Kyloe is an old Scots word for Highland cattle, chosen to represent the strength and versatility of the restaurant’s main event. Supplied by Scotland’s top farms, the Kyloe Restaurant and Grill uses cuts from pedigree Aberdeen Angus, taking provenance, rigorous approaches to breeding and handling and heritage seriously in order to bring customers the ultimate steak dining experience. Kyloe’s award winning head chef John Rutter uses a selection of traditional cuts as well as some more unusual cuts chosen for texture and flavour in an innovative grill menu while his a la carte features seasonal Scottish produce simply prepared to produce compelling dishes. Rutter's creations are complemented by the works of in house pastry chef Amanda Jordan and a unique and interesting wine list sourced through a number of merchants.

Starter superb but steak frite main was dreadful - pink = raw and a terrible cut of meat. Disappointing and far below usual standards. Such a shame.

Went for a birthday dinner, food was amazing, all the servers were extremely polite and professional, would definitely eat here again !

I had a wonderful lunch. The market menu is an abbreviated and less expensive lunch option. I felt welcomed which was lovely as a solo diner. I had seared scottish scallop as the first course which included scallops, prawn and cod cheek. I followed that with steak frites that was cooked to order and I was given a choice of knives. It cam with a whisky peppercorn sauce. I hadn't really planned on dessert but changed my mind and went with the affogato. I don't remember the wine I had but is was described on the wine list as something like a mini amarone. It was very nice. The service was just right and I really had a great time overall.

Overall lovely experienced. Did feel slightly disappointed when we were asked by staff to have the table back sooner than our 2hr booking slot, but other than that, would highly recommend.

A nice restaurant and decent service but very overpriced compared to other steak restaurants in Edinburgh. The likes of The Chop House is far superior and much cheaper.

The steak was good but wasn’t spectacular. However I am impressed by the experience and service. The waiter first comes with a board of meat to explain to you the different types. And later on brings a set of knives for you to choose to cut your meat with. The best part was when I asked for a candle on the dessert cake, they did not have a candle available but they did go out of their way to bring an additional board with ‘happy birthday’ writing and some macaroons and chocolate on it as complimentary gift. It was very thoughtful and generous of them and for that they absolutely deserve the 5 stars.
