Kumiko is a Japanese Dining Bar (ダイニングバー)* where food and drink are treated with equal reverence. Located in Chicago’s West Loop, Kumiko boasts incredible cocktails and spirits with exquisite food to pair.

Owner and bartender Julia Momosé blends Japanese ingredients and techniques to create an elevated menu of beverages and bites.

Whether you come to savor some of Japan’s finest saké or walk in for a lovely dinner with friends, Kumiko welcomes you with warmth and gratitude.

Our seasonal tasting menu is rooted in Japanese ingredients, melding the cross-cultural experiences and techniques of Chef Josh Mummert with the guidance of Creative Director Julia Momose. We highlight the best of the season and seek to showcase the breadth of Japanese cuisine through the lens of mixed-heritage, embracing the time and place in which we reside. Spiritfree, Japanese Sake, and Cocktail pairings are available to add on upon seating. Gluten Free and Pescatarian menus are available, but we are unfortunately unable to accommodate any other dietary restrictions. We kindly ask for more than 24 hours notice to make these accommodations, and that you include any restrictions in your reservation notes at the time of booking.

Upscale, elegant atmosphere. Outstanding cocktails. Excellent dessert. The service was very personal and thoughtful, the staff even signed a card for the occasion we were celebrating! (We ordered the Goldfinch, Ume Boulevardier, Legent Manhattan, and the Truffle Milk Toast)

As one of the best bars in America for 2023, Kumiko was an absolute disappointment. We made a reservation a week in advance, expecting a memorable dining experience, but it completely fell short. First of all, their fried chicken was as dry as cardboard and barely edible — the quality was unacceptable for a restaurant of this caliber. To make matters worse, the server interrupted us more than five times during our one-and-a-half-hour dinner, constantly asking if we wanted to order more, even though we hadn’t finished our food or drinks. This annoying service ruined the entire dining atmosphere. The experience was not only disappointing but also made us feel disregarded and disrespected.

Poor service. Kept us waiting for ages till seated and then was being very pushy about the bill even though we weren’t done with our drinks.

I would come here mainly for drinks as most of what I tried was excellent with the exception of hi-chu drink, although don’t expect a strong alcohol flavor. The food is portioned small and definitely not priced to fill your stomach.

It’s more a bar than a restaurant- the selection of the menu is limited unfortunately- the food was delicious but it would be nice to have more choice- my drink was great but more expensive than my main course- service was attentive
