Krakatoa Indonesian Cuisine serves some of the most flavorful foods from Indonesia. We specialize in flavors from the area of Sumbawa Island Indonesia. Many dishes are inspired by the chef's memories and experiences as a child. Flavors of lemon grass, kaffir lime, coconut milk, coriander, and cumin meander through the menu. Krakatoa offers a variety of dishes, including vegetarian dishes exploding with flavor. All of our dishes are unique and cooked to order so they are the freshest possible when they arrive to your table. If you are looking for something new and different come join us in our cozy little restaurant. Experience a little bit of Indonesia not only in our food but our atmosphere where we have brought some items from our travels with many pictures to see and a big map of Indonesia that is sure to spark a conversation. This is our third visit to the restaurant over the past 2 years. The first visit was very good, with attentive service and great food. The second experience was disappointing, with below average service and average food. I thought it might have been an anomaly so decided to give it another try last night with some friends, hoping for a repeat of our first visit, rather than second. Last night turned out to be even worse. The waiter was inattentive, rude and mostly unavailable and unwilling to answer questions. The food was well below average with the meat being tough and chicken being dry. Even the vegetables were old. The dessert, a simple layered sponge cake, was downright awful. With 2 of 3 experiences now being terrible, we will not be returning.

We love this place! The food is delicious and unique. Owners recipes are special. We had to sit outside due to one of the people in our party having a medical service dog. The neighborhood on a Friday night is problematic as there are people smoking pot all over the street, heavily intoxicated people bothering the outside tables. Sad but a reality.

We shared 3 maid dishes between 4 people since we didn’t want to be stuffed before going out to live music at Arts Park. Everything came out super fast and fresh and was delish!

Our overall experience dining here was good. We love the ambience and service. However, the flavor of the food was mainly way off. I myself am from Indonesia. My husband understands cooking Indonesian food (despite not being an Indonesian) as he has been to Indonesia, as well as has eaten my cooking many times, my Indonesian friends’ cooking, etc. We both agreed that the food we ordered (i.e. rendang, mie ayam kecap) did not taste like they should. The rendang did not have any trace of curry reduction (as rendang should), and it was more like dry rawon (east Javanese black soup with beef). The mie ayam kecap was nothing like mie ayam kecap at all, it was more like a marriage between Japanese ramen (drained in broth) and Indonesian instant noodle (not naming brands here). I was not sure what the dish was going for, as Indonesian noodle dishes are either dry (stir fry style), with a bit of water that is mostly absorbed by the noodles, or the soup is served separately so we can add the soup to the noodle based on our individual preference. Both dishes were garnished with red cabbage, which usually is not present in Indonesian dishes. Both dishes are dominant only with turmeric flavor and nothing else. We also ordered tahu gejrot for appetizer, now this one was closer to the authentic version. As a food and cooking enthusiast, I try to have an open mind that each restaurant owner or chef may have their own takes on what (authentic) food should be like. But as a customer from the country which this restaurant states that it represents the cuisine, the dishes I ordered was not as I expected. We were both hungry, so we were able to eat most of the food we ordered, but we just would not think of this restaurant as a restaurant that serves Indonesian food.
