What a great surprise! Cool outdoor vibes, heat lamps and blankets provided, neat shops within the space. Food was absolutely outstanding. Cocktails the same- unusual and fantastic. Truly one of the best meals I’ve had in ages, and that includes meals where I live in San Francisco. They happened to be short staffed the night we were there, but we enjoyed the music and cocktails and some shopping while we waited. SO good! I would come all the way back to 29 Palms, just to eat here again.

WHAT A WASTE! Uninspired, below average. Jerk Chicken, mostly bones. Dan Dan Noodles watery and flavorless, beet salad, ok, but watery, smash burgers dry and overcooked. This bills itself as a restaurant that is "chef owned and operated" with gourmet food, but it is not. Whoever is in the kitchen has lost passion. AND...We were a party of 10, the waiter upsold us on so much stuff--the worst being the "coconut rice"--we got 5 of them--which was the driest, non-coconut jasmine rice I've ever had $7 each for about 1/2 cup of rice. Bummer since we were there to celebrate my daughter's 16th birthday with her friends, and ended up passing on dessert and candles at the restaurant and getting ice cream at Stater Brothers instead. Would NEVER recommend or return to this spot. We are foodies and this place is not for anyone who knows food. We don't mind spending $$ on food...this is just NOT.

Fantastic food, great environment, and definitely worth getting a reservation. We had a 10:30 AM reservation (30 minutes after opening), encountering 2-3 other tables when seated, and, by the time we left, nearly 10 tables were occupied

Straight off the bat - the food is great, the place is upbeat while remaining chilled and zen. The service and the kitchen are in need of a huge transformation. We got to the restaurant on time per our reservation with Open Table. There was a long queue ("a line" for the Americans who cant spell queue) - uncomfortably for a Brit - I went to the head of the line to listen and observe . The greeter was telling folks about the wait for those who had not reserved. I waited for her to finish before "butting in" to tell her we had reserved. She looked at me and said "Great - if you could just join the line I will be right with you". 30+ minutes later, she got to us and thanked us for waiting. A wedding party was in that night with a large table of ~26guests. We tried to order food but our waiter said he "wasn't allowed to take food orders till he got the drinks". I said I was driving and we weren't drinking alcohol but we were ready for food. He repeated that we needed to purchase "drinks - even if they were not alcoholic". We did. 40 minutes later he took our food order. An hour later 1 dish arrived. We asked if there was a problem (other customers were looking around too - wondering what was going on). The server told us that "he wasn't to blame, it was the kitchen, he brings the food when its ready, he had just flown in (not sure of the relevance) and that they were really understaffed. I asked when the food was going to be ready (we had ordered 4 large plates for 2 people). Another hour and we asked for the check and left. The kitchen just couldn't cope. What food we had was delicious but the experience left a bad taste.

After a day in Joshua Tree National Park, Kitchen in the Desert was the perfect way to end the day. I have several dietary restrictions and was pleasantly surprised at how easily they were accommodated. Most of the entrees are gluten free and all the ice creams were vegan! Everything was delicious and the atmosphere was fun and relaxed.
