Opened in 2016, this Uptown Mexican eatery continues to gather accolades, including a spot on The New York Times' recommendations "36 hours in Chicago" and four straight years of being a MICHELIN Guide Bib Gourmand restaurant right up to the present.

An immersive experience of Oaxacan cuisine featuring layudas (a.k.a. Mexican pizza), tamales oaxaqueños, enchiladas de mole, cornish hen and tacos de birria just to name a few. Their selection of margaritas made with homemade agua frescas with no artificial syrups and mimosas on the weekends is a must! Diners know to leave room too for the Oaxacan nicuatole (a flavored flan) and tres leches cake.

Kie-Gol-Lanee comes from the Zapotec dialect meaning "Piedra Antigua" (old stone). Its Spanish version "Quiegolani" is the name of a small village in Oaxaca, Mexico, where the owners and siblings are from. Maria and Reynel Mendoza run this operation with their spouses, Leo and Sandra, whose mission is to preserve their family’s original recipes.

    Made my second visit to Kie-Gol-Lanee and had another wonderful meal with great service. I am looking forward to my next visit. Highly recommend!

    We came back for another visit to Kie Gol-lanee, bringing with us out-of-town friends who enjoy excellent restaurants as much as we do, and we all had delicious meals complemented with wonderful service. Our entrees were well prepared, flavorful & much enjoyed - two orders of the Cornish hen, the stewed rabbit, and the stuffed pork chops. We look forward to returning and bringing other friends!

    Our party of 4 gave a thumbs up for the steamed Cod with pumpkin seed sauce and vegetables, Quail with plum sauce, barbecued Lamb Shank, and vegetarian Tacos. All were excellent with fresh ingredients, homemade corn tortillas, tender meat and delicate flavorful Oaxacan sauces! The Sopa de Elote, corn soup had a delicate, creamy texture. The service was outstanding- water glasses continually filled, dishware and utensils promptly replaced, and suggestions offered. Most important, the servers did not rush us out! The restaurant is a storefront, attractively decorated with good lighting. The space is a bit tight, but shouldn’t deter people from enjoying a treasure in Chicago. Fine dining Oaxacan style.

    Fantastic margarita and food. The venue was very popular on a Thursday night, so the noise level was moderate and tables were quite close to each other. The patrons were respectful of the close space and it was a comfortable & enjoyable dining experience. The menu was diverse with unusual delicious dishes. :)

    Service was great. Food was good, but not special Prices were high…1 shared appetizer, enchiladas and 2 tamales, with 2 beers, tax, tip and credit card fees…$98 Not what I think of for an ordinary meal
