Opened in 2016, this Uptown Mexican eatery continues to gather accolades, including a spot on The New York Times' recommendations "36 hours in Chicago" and four straight years of being a MICHELIN Guide Bib Gourmand restaurant right up to the present.

An immersive experience of Oaxacan cuisine featuring layudas (a.k.a. Mexican pizza), tamales oaxaqueños, enchiladas de mole, cornish hen and tacos de birria just to name a few. Their selection of margaritas made with homemade agua frescas with no artificial syrups and mimosas on the weekends is a must! Diners know to leave room too for the Oaxacan nicuatole (a flavored flan) and tres leches cake.

Kie-Gol-Lanee comes from the Zapotec dialect meaning "Piedra Antigua" (old stone). Its Spanish version "Quiegolani" is the name of a small village in Oaxaca, Mexico, where the owners and siblings are from. Maria and Reynel Mendoza run this operation with their spouses, Leo and Sandra, whose mission is to preserve their family’s original recipes.

The staff are very friendly and made excellent recommendations. We came for lunch and had a delicious, relaxing lunch with skinny margaritas. I highly recommend Kie-Gol-Lanee!!

It was a great Friday night to celebrate our Valentine’s Day. The food was very fresh and drinks were great to pair. We definitely will be back for restaurant week and weekend in the summer.

We enjoyed everything about our first visit to this neighborhood gem. Welcoming, inviting, cozy space with gentle lighting and Oaxacan decor. Tables well spaced. Excellent beverages featuring Oaxacan mezcals, tequilas, prickly pear, etc. We split a starter of wild mushrooms cooked in a plantain leaf with a tart green side sauce. Outstanding entrees: succulent roast rabbit in golden mole (made with roasted yellow cherry tomatoes) and crispy-tender marinated grilled quail with roast cactus and plum sauce. All revelatory and satisfying.

They were very busy and we were seated 30 minutes after our reservation time. The food as usual was very good.

For a busy Saturday night during Chicago Restaurant Week, the service was excellent, the food ranged from good to outstanding, and that was the best house margarita I've ever had in 312. For sure will go back.

Mario is an exceptional server! He was intentional to learn our names and call us by name. In addition, he willingly explained the history and culture of the restaurant and food. Best server experience I've had in a long time!

Insanely delicious. The steak and chicken were tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor. Probably the best tamales I’ve ever had. Service was friendly, attentive, and quick. Dessert was lovely and capped off a very enjoyable meal.

I went for restaurant week 2025 with my family and had brunch on the weekend. The food was extremely tasty and the portions were very large. The tres leches French toast were amazing! And so were the tamales divorciados! The champurrado was excellent as well. I would highly recommend this spot to anyone who wants good Mexican food!

I’ve been to Kie-Gol-Lanee maybe 5-6 times now since finding it last year, but went tonight for restaurant week to introduce it to my mom and celebrate our birthdays. The service was (and always is) stellar, and the food is outstanding. Portions for restaurant week seemed the exact same as they always are, so it was a really great value. The mole is the best I’ve had in the city and I usually order a side of it to go with the chips at the start. Love the small wine list that highlights wine producers in Mexico. My mom loved it as well, which just made me really happy. Thanks team! Can’t wait til my next meal there.
