Khmai Cambodian is a culinary journey that celebrates rich heritage and indomitable spirit of Cambodia. Named as an homage to Khmer, the native language, Mai means mother, which pays homage to Chef's mother.
Our restaurant is a testament to the enduring bond between family and food.

Khmai Cambodian is Inspired by the childhood experiences of our founder, Mona Sang, and her mother, Sarom Sieng, who survived the Cambodian genocide, our menu pays tribute to their unwavering resilience and passion for cooking. As a James Beard Semifinalist for Best New Restaurant in 2023, Khmai Cambodian has earned acclaim for its commitment to preserving and showcasing the culinary treasures of Cambodia.

Also enjoy our new concept Kaun Khmai, where the spirit of Cambodia comes alive through bold flavors and vibrant experiences. Translating to "Children of Cambodia," our lively and casual atmosphere invites you to explore the innovative fusion of traditional Khmer street food with a generational twist.

The food was beyond exceptional. We order varities of dishes like snapper, grilled pork, chicken curry and oxtail stew and beef skewers and all were very delicious. Each dish has a lot of flavors and we couldn't stop ourselves from over eating. The portion is family style so it's a big portion for each dish and I definitely recommend anyone who wants to experience an authentic flavor of Cambodian cuisine that this restaurant has to offer. The service was great and we enjoy our time there. It is definitely worth trying. Thank you chef for making the food so delicious for us and we are definitely coming back for more!

I have yet to find a dish at Khmai that isn't delicious. I made a reservation through Open Table, and the day before, a representative from Khmai called to confirm our reservation, and to check for any food allergies. The server asked again before taking our order, which made me feel very safe. We ordered cocktails, which were all delicious. The staff were very well informed about the menu, and explained each dish's main ingredients, and taught us how to pronounce the names in Khmer. The flavors were unlike anything I've had anywhere else, Khmer cooking is very distinctly different than other Southeast Asian cuisine. I don't have a high tolerance for spice, but I found that even the spicier dishes weren't overwhelming. The flavors were perfectly balanced. It's a small dining room, but they don't pack it, so the table felt private, in spite of the chatter and ambient sound. The decor is very elegant and understated so that the food takes center stage. Expect to spent a couple hours over a meal, dishes are served family style, one at a time, so it's a parade of delicious food that everyone shares. ORDER DESSERT! The Cassava cake was rich, caramelized and decadent. The mango mousse is nice and light, the fresh fruit is an excellent finish to the meal.

The food was delicious. The service was warm, welcoming, and informative. The cocktails and wine were great. I highly recommend Khmai.

My partner and I hadn’t been to the new location yet and it did not disappoint. The food was just as good as it was a year and a half ago. And the drinks were still great too. Excellent service. Really does feel like a fine dining vibe without the stuffiness of some high end places. We had booked a reservation right before they were forced to close temporarily so we had to cancel. They remembered and offered a free starter which was an unexpected but super nice touch. It was a lovely meal/experience and I highly recommend it.

The food and service was terrific, but there was one notable problem. Unfortunately, we were seated by the window (in the nicer part of the restaurant), under an AC vent/blower. This made us and the food cold. We asked to be moved, but they just adjusted the AC, which helped a bit, but not enough. They should never seat people under the vent. When we go back again, and we will, we will not allow ourselves to be seated under the vent. Everything else was terrific.
