Since 1972, Kanki has been the Triangle’s favorite Japanese steakhouse and sushi house.
Located in West Durham on Mount Moriah Road, Kanki Durham serves up delicious hibachi lunches and dinners, sushi and much more.

Our Durham, NC Japanese restaurant is the only Kanki location with a To-Go number, and we make picking up take out orders fast and simple with designated parking spaces and an easily accessible “Take Out” door.

Kanki will only seat complete parties. Please have all your guests accounted for prior to seating. Incomplete parties must wait to be seated until all has arrived.

An 18% gratuity will be added to parties of 6 or more.

I have eaten at many Japanese Steakhouses over the years, but this was my favorite. We had the BEST chef named Mozart !!! We were celebrating my son’s birthday and Mozart made us laugh so much! He really made it special. And to top It off the food was fresh and delicious.

We absolutely love this place! We've never once had even a mediocre experience here. The wait staff are always great, the chefs are always fun, and the food is always perfect. Easily the best value for your money.

Flavor wise the food was good but they were very skimpy on the portions . Especially compared to other hibachi restaurants in the area. Our waiter forgot to bring out the salads, barely gave us refills on water and forgot to tell the chef two of the guest at our table were plant based, the waiter also didn’t bring us out dinner utensils. The chef was more of the waiter, everything the waiter forgot he stopped cooking and grabbed it for our table . I think the waiter was doing very minimal and less because due to our large party there was already a gratuity that would be applied to the bill. So overall, very poor service, good food but very small portions.

The wait time at the table was rather lengthy, it seems that they may be short on staff. The front desk person during this visit was super! We had a horrible experience a few months ago with the people at the front desk and they literally ruined our celebration. Thankfully tonight was a much different experience!

We had a 6 pm reservation but were not seated until 6:50. Tables seated after ours had chefs appear before ours. It was 7:20 before the soup and salad arrived and those were all well finished before the chef arrived. The chef was fine, the server was very slow. We were billed for an appetizer that never appeared even though we had pointed out to the server that, since we were well into the entree round, the order should be cancelled and not billed. We have been there many times before and while it’s rarely speedy, this was particularly disappointing.

The wait for a chef was extremely long. There were only three chef available for the entire evening. The restaurant was full and not equipped to accommodate the crowd and we suffered
