What am I missing? I booked this restaurant because it was recommended by my boss, a SD local. It was not crowded. We were a party of 5. I found the service lacking as they hadn’t brought our wine by the time our first small plates were served so we missed the combination of those together. We ordered the fish, which was amazing. Once again no service and we were left to our own devices. The risotto was fine but not amazing. Maybe it was an off night but with so many great restaurants in SD, I wouldn’t return.

This is not an upscale dining experience at all as it presents online. The food was awful and the vibe was mall-like, not fine dining.

Long my favorite restaurant in SD, things seemed to slip a little during my last visit. Fewer dishes had that J&P “wow” factor. The carne crudo, an original menu item that has never come off the menu since opening, lacked the slight heat of previous versions I have eaten in the past. I thought they used to have Serranos in the crudo, but there was no heat this time and the dish was missing it. I’ll still be back though.

Haven't been here in 5 years but as good as I remember. Service was outstanding. Food highlights, linguine with SD uni and halibut crudo.

We loved the whole duck and the service. But, I didn’t notice they charged me for 2 6oz. Lager de Cervera - Albariño $32.00. We didn’t have this item.

Service was terrible. Our waiter forgot to put our order in and then tried to lie about what had happened. When we’d been seated for 40 minutes and didn’t yet have any food, the assistant GM came over to ask how everything was tasting (weird since we had nothing on the table). We told her we’d been there 40 minutes and had no food yet and she giggled and said “oh, oops!” But then did nothing to help, and stood in the alley hitting her vape with a busboy while we waited for food. Because we told the waiter we knew he had lied about the reason for our food’s delay, he got so intimidated that he barely ever came to check on us ever again and when he did, he didn’t look us in the eye. We had to ask our busboy and the runners for drink refills and service. The GM took the fall for his waiter and sent over oysters to apologize (which we don’t even like). He also never checked on us again. When the food finally began to come, it was average at best, bad at times, and came in the wrong order. The menu descriptions were misleading in many cases. Would never go back here. The only saving grace was that we were seated outside on a beautiful night because the inside was so loud, but the outside had constant aircraft noise (although it was cool to watch the planes take off and land).

The service was impeccable! We went for our anniversary - the menu had a header on it wishing us a “Happy Anniversary!” Each detail was to ensure we had an exquisite experience start to finish. We chose a few bites, small plates and the white chocolate yodel.

This place has really gone down hill. Talk about resting on your laurels, J&I is doing that well. Food was average at best. Portions were really small. Prices were ridiculous. Have some pride and shut your doors…forever. Your best days are way behind you.
