Jimoto is a locally owned and operated upscale casual American Sushi Restaurant located in downtown Winnetka. "Jimoto" is a Japanese term that can be translated as "local" or "hometown." In Japanese culture, "jimoto" often signifies a deep-rooted loyalty and support for the community, as well as a recognition of the local traditions, customs, and values. We aim to capture that essence when you visit us for a date night or just to satisfy your sushi craving! First of all, the food was great. Very creative and fresh sushi, pretty reasonably priced. My one complaint is that our server, while pleasant, made us feel rushed and a little uncomfortable. Almost as soon as we sat down, she wanted to take our drink order and immediately asked if we were ready to order - we hadn't even looked at the menu yet! She stood at the table while we looked over the drink menu and we made our selections quickly. As soon as she put the drinks down, she asked again about ordering. We ordered an appetizer just to buy ourselves some time to relax and catch up over our drinks! With a half a plate of edamame still in front of us, she offered to take the dish away so we could order dinner. We weren't done! Every time we ordered something, she asked, "Anything else?" as if we needed to order more. After determining we weren't going to order dessert, she brought the check without our having asked for it, and stood at the table with the credit card reader so we would pay it immediately. I know this was Saturday night, but it was pretty early, and the restaurant was not full, so we weren't table hogging. All we wanted was a relaxing evening out to catch up with friends. I also know that none of these things in isolation seems so egregious, but it tainted our experience.

Judy, thank you for taking the time to give feedback on Open Table. This has been addressed with that particular server and the rest of the team as well. I apologize you all felt rushed, that is not how we want our guests to experience jimoto. I appreciate all feedback and always want to address it head on. I hope you will give us another chance in the future. Again, I apologize for the poor experience.

We sat down for my birthday and no one came to our table to even give us water for 10 minutes until we asked the host. We had a similar experience the first time we came here. The food is very good but the service is very lackluster.

We had been looking forward to trying Jimoto after reading all the fantastic reviews about the food and seeing the photos of the lovely interior! The ambiance is 5 stars and our waitress was lovely but unfortunately we were a bit disappointed as the food was “good” but nothing stand out. The rolls lacked flavor and sashimi cuts (hamachi and Otoro) were just okay.

I've been using Open Table for a long time. This is the first time I've written a review. I had a 7pm reservation on a Monday. I stood at the hostess stand for at least 10 minutes before someone (not a hostess) told me where to sit. We sat and waited. Took at least another 10-15 minutes or so to be greeted by our server. We ordered a bunch of items from the menu and they were pretty tasty. There was a very long delay between finishing our 3 appetizers and receiving the five sushi rolls we ordered, plus a non sushi meal. The entire time, my party of four was uncomfortably cold. This was mentioned to the hostess who said she was so cold too, but there was nothing that could be done. The food was not bad. We love sushi and are always looking for new places to try. My bill was about $200 and honestly I could have gotten better sushi, ambiance and service elsewhere for less money. If the service wasn't so terrible I'd give this place another chance. Perhaps more staffing is needed.
