We loved the buzzy atmosphere, and were amazed at the terrific service despite the size of the place (and how packed it was.) We ordered the tortilla española (excellent), escalivada (not the best), a sautéed spinach small plate (excellent), and the pork-based paella (very good). We'd definitely go again to try some more of the menu.

Decent food, but not as good as the food you find in the restaurant JA has in Bethesda. They ran out of the paella special they had for Spain’s national day. We also had to asked the server to bring us the complimentary tapa they had for reservations made in OpenTable. The meat came almost cold to the table. We requested outdoor dining and they sat us in an area the was covered and glassed, so we could not enjoy the nice weather for a 12 of October. The service was not up to what you’d expect for a restaurant of its kind. Not sure we will come back

We recently had dinner at Jaleo in DC, eager to experience one of José Andrés’ renowned restaurants, but unfortunately, it fell short of expectations due to extremely slow service. We arrived with a reservation and were seated on time, excited to try the Jaleo Experience with the beverage pairing. The waitress informed us it included seven courses, and we were looking forward to sampling a variety of tapas. However, after a lengthy 45 minutes, we still hadn’t received our first course. When the waitress returned to pour more of our beverage pairing (as she required a new bottle to finish one of the pours in which she had started 20 minutes earlier), I informed her that we needed to leave in 50 minutes for an event nearby. I even asked if we should change our menu choice and she assured me that was unnecessary. Finally, we received our first round of tapas, but another 20 minutes passed before the second course arrived. After inquiring about the timing again, the waitress mentioned she had just fired the remaining courses, so we hoped for some improvement. While rounds four and five came together just minutes before our departure time, I had to track her down at 8:55 for our bill. Regrettably, we never received the last two courses of tapas or their drink pairings. We often dine at fine establishments where 1.5 hours is ample time to enjoy a meal, and the staff accommodates any time restrictions. It was disheartening to see another table, seated 30 minutes after us, receiving their orders without delay from the same waitress. They had their first round of tapas before us and had four rounds before we had our even had our third! While the food we did taste was delicious, the service experience overshadowed what should have been a memorable evening.

We were seated fairly quickly, then made our choices for what to eat. Every bite we had was delicious! Our favorites were the tomato and white beans dish and the endive dish. Service was quick enough that we were able to get dessert before the Capitals game and the Flan was so unexpectedly delicious! We've never had better!

I had a solo dinner after a matinee at the next door Shakespeare Theatre. I was seated at a table for two just one table down from the service doors to the kitchen so there was considerable but fairly quiet traffic nearby, also on a narrow passageway with lots of service traffic. In retrospect I should have requested a table for two further away---there were other tables open next to the outer window and the hour was early, 4:30. But I focused on the view out the windows and my food. My server was very polished and also friendly, which is nice for a solo diner. I ordered two of my favorites tapas and was served a complimentary dish of potatoes. My gin and tonic was very good. The noise level was acceptable.

Absolutely outstanding experience. We loved every single dish we ordered, and the menu has options for anyone from the adventurous to those with more conservative palates. Wish we had more time in the city to come back and try different tapas!
