The location is perfect. The ambiance is lovely. The food was excellent, we celebrated our 30th anniversary there & it was the perfect place for us.

Have not been to Jake's for dinner for quite some time, but it never disappoints. Except the prices have doubled since then, but that is the case everywhere. Still hard to swallow. Pun intended 😅

I'm a regular diner at Jake's, taking friends there all the time. because the food quality and the service is consistently high. This less-than-glowing review is unusual for me. Context: It was a very busy night, the last of their 30th anniversary special menu. It was also our 42nd wedding anniversary. Jake's printed a special menu for us! There were 4 entrees on the 30th anniversary menu: 2 fried, one each meatloaf entree and fish. No vegetarian option. 2 of us chose the fish. By 6:60, (very early for dinner service) the fish was gone. Surprising, because Portland is a fish diners" paradise. OK, that happens. I ordered the meatloaf. Now service starts to break down: We ordered another basket of bread, it never came. Water glasses weren't refilled. However, the salads were delicious. When the entrees arrived, 2 in the party liked the meatloaf, even if it wasn't their first choice. A third person conceded the fried oysters were OK. I gave my meatloaf a chance, but after 2 bites, knew this wasn't for me. No one came back to check as they normally would, offering me a chance to order something else. The next time our server showed up, it was time to order dessert, and still she didn't catch on that I hadn't eaten, but thoughtfully offered a doggie bag. Even so, Jake's is a neighborhood gem, and of course, we'll be back.

They said they didn't have my reservation but took me anyway. I showed them that I DID have one through Open Table. After I was seated, the server asked if I was ready to order but I hadn't decided yet. It took quite some time for the server to return. When I did order, the wait was very short. The food was very good and I enjoyed my meal.

Little details makes a difference. I was celebrating 2 birthdays for dinner. Jake’s Grill took the time to print “Happy Birthday” with the names of the 2 attendees. Made them feel special.

Wasn’t my first time here but was definitely the best time. I will add the food was amazing, they have different deals to choose from also/promotions. I don’t have to say much but I will end it with Kaitlyn was one of the best servers I’ve ever had in my life. Sweetest person you will ever meet. Very personable and efficient girl! She will let you know exactly what’s the best thing on the menu. I absolutely loved that! It was my husband’s birthday dinner and we usually go to a over priced dim lit restaurant but this was way better. Spent half the money we would have and I loved the brighter and busier atmosphere. I will definitely be coming back soon and I hope it’s just as awesome.

We were there for a business dinner and hard a large group on separate checks. Angela was great and took care of us. The food was delicious.

I love Jake's Grill, but I wish they would replace the curtains one could close at each booth. Without them, the noise level is high due to echoing voices often emanating from the bar. Those much-missed curtains, even when left open, did the job of absorbing enough of the room's sound so that people like me who have hearing problems (and hearing aids that pick up a lot of external sound) were able to dine comfortably without having to ask the others at their table to speak up.
