Situated in Lakeview's iconic Southport Corridor, Itoko is a neighborhood Japanese and robata restaurant from Gene Kato, Executive Chef of Momotaro. “Itoko” means cousin in Japanese, and refers to the connection with Momotaro, located in the Fulton Market District. The menu features the high level of ingredients and technique that Chicago has come to expect from Chef Kato, alongside a beautiful interior curated for the Southport neighborhood. The menu itself features uniquely interpreted sushi rolls that allow the high-quality fish to be the star of the sushi experience. In addition, an innovative beverage menu with a focus on cocktails & highballs highlights the relationship between the technique of the food created by the kitchen and how this is complimented by the beverage selection. This is supplemented by a compelling sake program (designed to demystify the tradition of the Japanese spirit).

Delicious modern Japanese restaurant. It’s expensive (seafood always is), small portions presented in beautiful ways. Just be prepared to spend $$ to leave full.

Food was great as usual. All the raw fish dishes were incredibly fresh beautifully seasoned. The Blue Fin Tuna with apples is always amazing. Drinks services was very slow but overall a great dinner.

Great food and ambiance. Great service but the kitchen was appeared to be slow. This is especially surprising as the slowest course to be served was dessert. But they were worth the wait.

We had the best first experience at Itoko. The team went above and beyond to recognize our anniversary. Food was incredible. We cannot wait to come back.

The service was horrible and really uncomfortable. She seemed angry we were there and if we had simple questions on the meal. She rarely came around and between ordering courses it took 40 minutes! When we inquired it all came out…. The noise level was also unbearable. The food was not memorable and better sushi can be found in the city. I would never go back.

Maggie was our server and she did an awesome job suggesting items to order. We loved the wagyu fried rice, the king crab and the bao buns! Yum! We had some sushi as well. Everything was perfectly cooked and very flavorful. She was an attentive server and aimed to make our experience excellent. We’ll be back soon! Loved it!

Food runners were fabulous however our main server had a bit of an attitude, almost condescending. The music level was too loud so perhaps that had something to do with our impression. My house named bourbon drink up-charged for a large ice cube but when it came was full of small cubes?!?

This was our first time here. We came for brunch to celebrate a 30th birthday. The staff was so kind & made great recommendations. The food was delicious. Definitely recommending this place to all our friends. We cannot wait to come back!
