Situated in Lakeview's iconic Southport Corridor, Itoko is a neighborhood Japanese and robata restaurant from Gene Kato, Executive Chef of Momotaro. “Itoko” means cousin in Japanese, and refers to the connection with Momotaro, located in the Fulton Market District. The menu features the high level of ingredients and technique that Chicago has come to expect from Chef Kato, alongside a beautiful interior curated for the Southport neighborhood. The menu itself features uniquely interpreted sushi rolls that allow the high-quality fish to be the star of the sushi experience. In addition, an innovative beverage menu with a focus on cocktails & highballs highlights the relationship between the technique of the food created by the kitchen and how this is complimented by the beverage selection. This is supplemented by a compelling sake program (designed to demystify the tradition of the Japanese spirit).

The unagi and amaki nigiri pieces were delightful. The steak Robata is a must have as well to get a little turf with your surf.

Skip the experience. The sashimi quality was mediocre at best. The service was poor and clumsy and lacked consistency and cordiality.

Always outstanding. Great service and delicious food. We were seated promptly and had excellent service from the bar. Our server was very knowledgeable and helped with all of our questions. The restaurant was louder than previously because of TacoFest, Cubs game, etc., but everything was fantastic, as always. Always one of our first choices for sushi.

Wonderful host team and wait staff, so friendly. The food was AMAZING! We have been here before for dinner, this time, here for brunch. Loved it all, had the pumpkin pancakes and their take on “steak and eggs”, kimchi rice was delicious!

This was our second time here, after having a fantastic first experience. This time wasn’t as impressive. My brothers dish came out first, a good half an hour before the rest of our meals, my mom’s coffee was cold with curdled cream, I ordered the combo for $25 but they charged me for each item separately, costing $3 more. Unfortunately, I don’t think we’ll be coming back.

Love this place but always too loud and uneven service (and wobbly tables). Everything is delicious and I’ve been 5-6x and will keep going, but many dishes seem to run out once ordered - it would be helpful to alert servers so they stop presenting specials only to find out 30 minutes later that’s why a dish didn’t show up.

My favorite thing were the hand rolls but everything we ordered was delicious! Super friendly and helpful staff as well!

Sooo good! The food was amazing! We went for an early dinner on our last day of a bachelorette trip and it was the perfect ambiance. It was elegant without being over the top; you will feel comfortable both dressed up or in cute casual clothes. Sometimes you get style over substance at restaurants, but Itoko had both style and substance haha Everything was priced fairly and I would definitely recommend to others :)
